Jane E. Pollick, 86, of 1226 E. Eschbach Rd., St. Marys, died peacefully on Wednesday evening, Oct. 20, 2010 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a short illness.
She was born April 24, 1924 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late George and Bertha Prechtl Samick. On Aug. 24, 1946 in Bradford, she married the late Joseph A. Pollick Jr., who preceded her in death on March 25, 1993.
Evelyn Jean Checco, 75, of Avella, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at home.
She was born April 27, 1935 in Avella, daughter of the late Angelo and Ella Mucci Bogo. In November 1974, she married James J. Checco, who survives.
Mrs. Checco attended Avella Grade School and was a 1954 graduate of St. Marys Area High School. She attended Grace Down's Airline School in New York City in 1955, Irene's Beauty School in 1959, and the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy in 1962.
Joseph M. Redmond Jr., 30, of Kaul Avenue, St. Marys, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at his home.
He was born Feb. 5, 1980 in Ridgway, the son of Joseph M. Redmond Sr. of Wilcox and Kimberly (Erickson) Himes and her husband, Glenn Himes of Altoona, who survive.
Joseph lived most of his life in Johnsonburg except for the past year, when he lived in St. Marys. He attended Johnsonburg High School and worked at GKN of Emporium. He was a Catholic by faith.
He was a member of Wilcox Sportsmenâ€™s Club.Â He enjoyed playing poker and loved animals, especially the family dogs.
The â€śGive What You Canâ€ť Campaign for the Hutton Family Relief Fund will conclude on Friday night at the Homecoming football game between SMAHS and Union. The game will be held at Dutch Country Stadium at 7 p.m.Â A collection bucket will be set up just inside the main entrance and patrons will be able to make a donation in any amount.Â
Living with a disability can often strengthen a person, give them a more positive outlook on life and allow them to inspire others to reach their maximum potential. Those ideas are key components of an upcoming presentation, "Who I Am: Discovering the VALUE in disABILITY," that will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24 in the St. Marys Catholic Elementary School gymnasium.
