A ribbon-cutting was held Tuesday for a new 16-chair renal dialysis center located on the campus of Elk Regional Health System in St. Marys.
The newly constructed Renal CarePartners of St. Marys Dialysis Facility, situated behind the building housing Community Nurses, Inc. and ERHC's outpatient rehabilitation center, was designed with the goal of providing top-quality nephrology and renal dialysis services, and making those services more accessible and convenient to residents in the region.
The Elk County Solid Waste Authority recently received a grant from the Stackpole Hall Foundation for necessary upgrades to the Community Recycling Center, which is located in the Stackpole Complex in St. Marys. The authority rents the building from North Central.
According to Bekki Titchner, recycling and solid waste coordinator, the total amount of the grant is around $8,000.
"That is for setting up the heating in [the Community Recycling Center], as well as for a digital scale," Titchner said.
The North Central Workforce Investment Board recently held a seminar about available and upcoming careers within Pennsylvania’s oil and gas extraction industry.
Members of numerous career agencies were in attendance, along with those involved with the North Central Gas and Oil Extraction Industry Partnership, which services 17 counties.

Grace M. McMahon, 92, of 308 Cobb St., Johnsonburg, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010 at her residence.
She was born March 31, 1918 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late William and Anna Howard McMahon.
She resided in Johnsonburg all her life.
She graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1936 and was a member of the Holy Rosary Church's Cursillo movement.
She was employed by the Elk County Courthouse for 24 years, retiring in 1986.
She is survived by one niece, Barbara Bowley of Wilcox; and two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
Timothy Gerard Hoh, 45, of Cushing Ave., Johnsonburg, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Dec. 6, 1964 in St. Marys, son of the late Robert G. Hoh and Celine (Weinzierl) Hoh of Johnsonburg, who survives.
He was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School and received a bachelor of science degree in Communications from Gannon University in 1988. He was a photojournalist and political cartoonist.
Charles J. "Chuck" Boylan, 82, of S. Michael Circle, St. Marys, died on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 6, 1928 in St. Marys, son of the late Joseph and Laura O'Hern Boylan.
On October 27, 1951 in St. Mary's Church, he married the late Eileen A. Hanes Boylan, who preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 2008.
Once again St. Joseph Monastery will be hosting Christmas at the Convent Open House event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Our bake sale is the most popular event,” said Sister Margoretta OSB. “Last year, people were lined up to get in.”
The Sweet Shop is offering an array of baked goods and canned items, including pears, salsa, mustard, hot peppers, jellies and jams and pumpkin bread. Homemade sauerkraut will also be available for purchase.
The holiday country song "Santa's Gonna Come in a Pickup Truck" may not be far off the mark this year, with local dealership St. Marys Chevrolet teaming up with Project Gifts for Elk County by pledging to collect four truck beds full of toys for the area's disadvantaged children.

Six members of the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team were named to the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference (KSAC) all-star teams for the 2010 season.
Senior Robert Rollick was named to the first team offensive line and first team defensive line.
Junior Justin Quiggle was named to the first team offense as a slot back, while senior Kyle Schneider was named to the first team as a linebacker.
Receiving second team honors were senior Kevin Hoy at fullback, junior Jimmy Werner at defensive end and junior Brian Merritt at corner back.
The Curwensville Golden Tide captured the District 9 Class A football championship Saturday afternoon by defeating the Port Allegany Gators by a 37-21 score. The game was played at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway.
The Tide scored 12 points in the first period of play to take a 12-0 lead. The Gators came back with a touchdown in the second quarter, cutting the Curwensville lead to 12-7 at the half.
Curwensville put 18 points on their side of the board in the third quarter while limiting Port to a touchdown. Curwensville led 30-13 after three quarters of play.
