As previously approved by members of city council, the city's union employees and police are under contract to receive wage increases every year through 2012. Councilman Bob Roberts brought up this point on Monday evening as he argued in favor of allowing the city's 13 non-union management employees to receive a three percent wage increase in 2011.
Renovations have recently been completed at the Fox Township Community Building following a two-year-long project.
Fox Township Public Works Director Randy Gradizzi said the building underwent a complete remodel. Among those changes was the installation of a new metal roof, creation of a new fitness center, refurbishing of the gym’s floor, installation of a new heating system, electrical work, new metal siding on the front and side of the building, new walls and landscaping.
Linda Thompson, a mental health program specialist with the Cameron/Elk County Mental Health/Mental Retardation Program, is receiving the 2010 Homes Within Reach "Unsung Hero Award" from the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania at a conference in Harrisburg this week. The award is given to people who help prevent homelessness in their area.
The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors approved items ranging from student activities to bus stops during their Monday evening meeting.
Among the approved field trips were those to a DECA State Officer CDC Planning Meeting in Hershey taking place Dec. 1-3. DECA advisor Michelle Jackson will accompany one student on the trip. The Spanish students’ trip to Peru in the summer of 2011 was approved, as was the St. Marys Area High School’s annual AP Economics class trip to New York City on March 10-11. Approximately 41 students are participating in the trip.
Kenneth L. Klein Sr., of Wilkes-Barre, died on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born April 23, 1939, in St. Marys, son of the late Emeron W. and Rose Detch Klein.
