The Elk County Catholic Crusaders placed two players on the 2010 Olean Times Herald Big 30 All-Star squad.
Representing the Elk County Catholic squad on the team are running back Ricky Pearsall and offensive lineman Zac Brody.
Pearsall rushed for 1,700 yards on 233 carries this season, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. He scored 24 of the 40 ECCHS touchdowns. He also had 323 yards on kickoffs and punt returns. On defense Pearsall had 50 solo tackles and eight assist for 58 total tackles.
DUBOIS -Â Josh Salter became the fifth player in Penn State DuBois basketball history to break the 1,000-point scoring mark Friday evening against St. Vincent College.Â
Salter, named to the PSUACÂ All-Conference team at Penn State DuBois this year,Â led the team in scoring with 18 points in an 87-64 loss to St. Vincent, brining his total to 1,006 points.Â
Salter also led the team in scoring on Saturday with 31 points against tournament host Mt. Aloysius in the consolation game.Â Salter finished the weekend with 1,037 career points.Â Josh was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
RIDGWAY â€“Â Joe Sestak, U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 7th congressional district, passed through Elk County yesterday morning and partook in an informal gathering at the American Legion along the 300 block of Main Street in Ridgway.
Serving as a U.S. Representative since 2007, the 2010 Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania's U.S. Senate seat lost a close election to Republican Pat Toomey.
Hunters can help feed the hungry by sharing their extra venison as part of Pennsylvaniaâ€™s charitable venison donation program, Hunters Sharing The Harvest (HSH).
The program distributes venison to the stateâ€™s food banks through a statewide network of participating butchers.
Floyd R. Beck, 67, of 276 West Creek Road, St. Marys, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 1, 1943, in DuBois, son of the late James R. and Hilda Carlson Beck.
On April 27, 1968, in the St. Mary's Church, he married Susan M. Gerg, who preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 2010.
Edith A. Olson, 91, of 645 Evergreen Rd., St. Marys, died on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at the Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Lewis Percy and Mary Elizabeth Gardner Weber.
On Nov. 19, 1982, in the Queen of the World Church, she married Robert J. Olson, who survives.
BENEZETTE â€“Â Members of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Delaware-based Tri-State Bird Rescue and private citizens, including Andy and Kay Mattone of Tarentum, gathered at the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette on Tuesday afternoon to witness the release of a golden eagle.
The eagle was believed to have been struck by a vehicle along SR 555 near Benezette in mid-October and was treated at the Tri-State Bird Rescue in Delaware. After a lengthy rehabilitation process, the eagle was finally healthy and ready to be released.
