He was born Aug. 14, 1936 in St. Marys, son of the late George and Margaret (Hirschberger) Herzing.

Catherine (Kate) Burden Maille

Catherine (Kate) Burden Maille, 80, of Erie, died at home on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010.
She was born June 26, 1930 in St. Marys, the daughter of the late Alvin and Eleanor Dunn Burden.
In 1958, she married David Frank Maille, who preceded her in death in 1975.

Donna (Dean) Lerch, 68, of Brockway, died on Wednesday, Oct, 30, 2010 following a lengthy illness.
She was born on March 29, 1942 in DuBois, the daughter of the late Donald and Ruth (Davis) Dean.

Gabler, Thompson, Corbett, Toomey carry Elk County

In the Nov. 2 general election, Republican Matt Gabler picked up 6,823 votes in Elk County compared to Democrat Frank Straub's 3,162 votes in the race for Representative in the General Assembly for the 75th District.
A total of 10,075 Elk County voters turned out at the polls on Tuesday, 50.6 percent of the county's registered voters. The majority of voters split the ballot, with 1,517 Democrats voting for the straight Democratic ticket and 2,302 Republicans voting for the straight Republican ticket.

Lady Crusader soccer advances to District 9-A title game defeat DCC 1-0

BROCKWAY - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader soccer team advanced to the District 9 Class A championship with a 1-0 victory over the DuBois Central Lady Cardinals in a match played at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway.
The Lady Crusaders will take on the Karns City Lady Gremlins Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at the DuBois Area High School field for the District 9 title.

ECC volleyball to host Otto-Eldred Thursday

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team will open play in the District 9-A tournament on Thursday by hosting the Otto-Eldred Lady Terrors.
Elk Catholic, the top seed, received a bye on Tuesday. Eighth-seeded Otto-Eldred beat ninth-seeded Curwensville 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19).

Baseball facility to help player development

On Saturday, Nov. 13, Beimel Baseball will open its doors as the area’s first sports complex targeted toward the development of area baseball and softball players and team programs.
The new facility is located at 315 Brusselles St., inside the former Hunt Oil building.
“Beimel Baseball provides a medium where our area youth can develop their skills both on an athletic and personal level,” said owner Mike Beimel. “My hope is to provide an outlet for our area children and instill the discipline, respect, hard work and self-worth values which are threaded throughout my business philosophy.”

Twenty-two elk harvested so far

Twenty-two of the 50 elk tags available in this year's elk hunt were already filled midway through the second day.
Tuesday saw a number of elk processed at the official check station, located at the Game Commission's maintenance shed along the Quehanna Highway in Karthaus Township.
Seven bulls were processed at the station on Tuesday.
Marshall Goulding of Hershey harvested a 5x6 bull with a dressed weight of 414 pounds. Goulding reportedly bagged the bull in Zone 2, which is comprised mainly of land administered by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Bureau of Forestry.

Pearsall attends Rally to Restore Sanity

Reports have estimated that over 200,000 people from across the United States descended upon the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Oct. 30 to take part in comedians and television personalities Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. The rally was a tongue-in-cheek event that did not endorse any candidates, but instead promoted moderation and cooperation among Americans of all backgrounds.
