The timeless story of a poor youngster who becomes a successor to a candy empire is sure to entertain audiences of all ages, as part of this year’s Elk County Catholic High School Drama Department’s production of “Willy Wonka.”
“Though there has been a movie version since the 70s, the stage adaptation is relatively recent,” said Ted Hanes, drama department director. “This show is a fun show that will not only entertain the children in the audience, but also the adults.”

Several Ridgway residents attended Tuesday morning's Elk County Board of Commissioners meeting and questioned local government officials' diligence in protecting the area's water supply during the recent Marcellus Shale drilling boom.
One resident, Clifford Stump, who resides along Montmorenci Road in Ridgway Township, expressed his concern about the drilling and its environmental impact.
Area residents have the opportunity to find out whether any of the items in their attics, basements and garages are worth more than meets the eye at the Treasure Hunters Roadshow, in progress this week at the Comfort Inn in St. Marys. The event is open to area residents from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. Frank Walton, manager for the local Roadshow, explained that the Treasure Hunters Roadshow is different from the popular "Antiques Roadshow" in that it does not provide appraisals, but instead matches items with a database of collectors.

Construction has recently been completed on a new road bordering the St. Marys Protestant Cemetery. The road runs from Washington Road through the cemetery, ending near Penn Road.
The road was one of the major projects for the Protestant Cemetery Association, which has been recently reorganized within the past year-and-a-half.
“The road is not a through road, as there is a gate installed at the top of the road,” explained Lisa Salter, association secretary and treasurer.
She noted that the cemetery’s upper road may be utilized for parking for those visiting the cemetery.
John F. Wachob, 84, of 101 Julia Street, Johnsonburg, died on Saturday morning, Nov. 13, 2010, at his residence, surrounded by his family, following a short illness.
He was born March 25, 1926, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Lloyd B. and Viola Muroski Wachob.
On Sept. 25, 1946, in the Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, he married Bette J. Williams, who preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2007.
Kathryn M. "Katie" Zoschg, 94, of 3033 Cameron Rd., Emporium, died on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at Guy and Mary Felt Manor in Emporium
She was born Nov. 25, 1915 in Rathbun, a daughter of the late George F. and Rose Balaban Mahovlich.
On July 14, 1941 in Winchester, Va., she married Matthew A. Zoschg Sr., who preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2003.
Mrs. Zoschg was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time around her home, most especially gardening. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church.
Regina J. Wonderling, 74, of 2166 Ridgway-Johnsonburg Rd., Ridgway, died on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at the Elk Regional Health Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born May 4, 1936, in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late James and Verna VanLuvender Shaffer. On July 30, 1955, in Wilcox, she married Carlton G. Wonderling, who survives.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She was a former employee of the Stackpole Corp. and Ridgway Powdered Metals. Mrs. Wonderling was a Protestant by faith and she enjoyed being with her family.
Margaret M. Gigliotti, 78, of 620 First Ave., Johnsonburg, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 14, 2010, at the Elk Regional Health Center following a short illness.
She was born Feb. 15, 1932 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Guiseppe and Frances Careno Gigliotti.
She resided in Johnsonburg all her life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1950.
Gloria Valentine Anderson, 84, of 769 Washington Rd., St. Marys, died on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Emporium, daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Husted Razey.
On Oct. 28, 1950 in the Sacred Heart Rectory, she married Firmin E. Valentine, who preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1979. On June 6, 1982, in Ludlow, she married Bertil L. Anderson, who preceded her in death on March 23, 2002.
November 15th
Bob Yoder once again addressed council members on behalf of Dynamic Energy, Inc., asking for council members to indicate whether they intend to move forward on a power purchase agreement for the downtown parking garage project, as well as working to solve any other potential issues that they foresee regarding the project.
Yoder explained that an initial design concept had recently been completed for placing the panels on the garage.
