DuBois Beavers hand Flying Dutch 41-20 setback

The DuBois Area Beavers handed the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen a 41-20 setback on Friday night in a game played at Dutch Country Stadium.
The game was a defensive struggle early on, as neither team scored in the opening quarter. Then DuBois put together a couple of second-period drives to score twice. The Beavers scored once in the third quarter, then in the final period of play when a total of six touchdowns were put on the board, four of them coming within the first four minutes of the period.

October is Domestic Violence Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and C.A.P.S.E.A., Inc. (Citizens Against Physical, Sexual and Emotional Abuse) is committed to providing confidential care to victims of domestic violence in Elk and Cameron counties.
“We provide victims (with) 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year access to our services,” said executive director Billie Jo Weyant. “We are going to concentrate on Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but also provide a lot of other services. We have a 24-hour shelter; if anyone needs to flee domestic violence and find a safe haven, we can provide that.

McGowan specializes in Pilates-focused physical therapy

Area residents in need of physical therapy now have a new option for meeting their rehabilitation needs.
Phoenix Rehabilitation and Health Services, Inc., which specializes in physical therapy with Pilates-focused techniques, opened at 425 Old Kersey Rd. next to the Red Fern at the beginning of September. The business is under the direction of Sherron McGowan, a physical therapist, orthopedic clinical specialist and certified Pilates instructor.

Expo outlines careers, future needs of gas industry

During a presentation at the North Central Gas Expo on Thursday, Danielle Boston, director of public outreach for the Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association (PIOGA), discussed the wide variety of jobs that will be available as the Marcellus Shale natural gas formation is developed in the region.
She said that the development of the Marcellus Shale will provide jobs not just immediately, but also for generations, since the well site development and management process often extends to 50 years or more.

Adeline D. Schwabenbauer
Adeline D. Schwabenbauer, 91, of 615 Sherry Rd., St. Marys, died Wednesday morning at the Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Kersey, daughter of the late LeRoy J. and Theresa Miller Mosier.
On May 22, 1946, in the St. Boniface Church, Kersey, she married John A. Schwabenbauer, who survives.

Lady Crusaders rally to nip SMA Lady Dutch

Ellie Petrosky of the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders soccer team scored the winning goal with 1:39 remaining in the game to pull out an exciting 3-2 victory over the Lady Dutch of St. Marys Area High School in a match held at the Benzinger Park soccer field. Petrosky finished a slotted ball from freshman Emma Daghir for the game winner.
"This (ECC) team has certainly not been short on drama lately," said Lady Crusaders coach Don Fabiano after the game. "That's the second time in the last three games we had to rally in the second half for a win," he added.

Dutch soccer team holds off Coudersport 3-2

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch soccer team held off the Coudersport Falcons by a 3-2 score Thursday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field to raise their record to 12-3-2 on the season.
St. Marys honored their senior players along with their parents in halftime ceremonies.
The first half of Thursday’s match saw the Dutchmen take control of the first half. The Dutch had seven shots to two by the Falcons. St. Marys also had five corner kicks.
The Dutch got on the board early, as Thomas Murmann scored with 31:34 left until intermission to give St. Marys the 1-0 lead.

Crusader soccer hands Elkers 5-1 setback

The Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team handed the Ridgway Elkers a 5-1 setback on Thursday evening in a match played at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Kersey. With the win, Elk Catholic improves to 10-4-1 on the season.
The Crusaders dominated possession of the ball from the start of the game, but Ridgway keeper Jesse Schneider kept the ball out of the net until almost the midway point of the first half. Elk Catholic's Mitchel Haberberger also made a few nice saves to keep the Elkers scoreless throughout the first half.
