James C. "Duffy" Haberberger, 82, formerly of 1050 S. Michael Rd., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 5, 1928 in St. Marys, a son of the late Fred and Margaret Friedl Haberberger.
On Oct. 4, 1956 in Queen of the World Church, he married Anna Mae Lecker Haberberger, who survives.
Keiko C. Geci, 79, of San Diego, Calif. and formerly of St. Marys, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010 at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
 She was born Feb. 14, 1931 in Omura City, Nagasaki, Japan, a daughter of the late Senichi and Rei Uragaki.
 On Jan. 18, 1971, she married Rudolph Geci, who survives.
2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, and in an effort to acknowledge the occasion, the Mt. Zion Historical Society plans to construct a monument at the Mt. Zion Historical Park to honor the members of the Elk County Rifles, Company G, of the Civil War Bucktail Regiment.
Elk County Council on the Arts is looking for your votes to improve its art gallery in downtown Ridgway, one of the hundreds of projects in the running for a $25,000 grant as part of the nationwide Pepsi Refresh project.
"We will work toward making physical improvements in the gallery. A proper gallery space will help to support our local artists and create a more user-friendly space for the community," explained ECCOTA Executive Director Abbi Peters about the organization's project goal.
Hip-hop artist and St. Marys native Dustin "Dee" Aunkst is hoping to move his career to the next level with his new album, "This Music is My Diary," set for release today.
Aunkst remembers when he first began honing his craft at various venues in and around Elk County, initially recording tracks in his bedroom at his mother's house.
"My favorite thing about St. Marys was the laid-back atmosphere. While I was in high school, it was easy to walk around with a backpack full of CDs to sell. It was a smaller town, so any song I put out created a buzz," Aunkst said.
