SMA Quarterback Club holds football awards banquet

The 53rd St. Marys Area Quarterback Club Football Awards Banquet was held Saturday night at the St. Marys Area High School.
The banquet is held to recognize the members of the St. Marys Area High School Flying Dutch football program, including players, coaches and cheerleaders.
The dinner was held in the school cafeteria, followed by the awards portion of the evening, which was held in Carpin Auditorium.
Terry Straub, acting as master of ceremonies for the evening, welcomed everyone to the awards portion of the night.

SMA gymnasts fare well at Bellefonte event

The St. Marys gymnastics team traveled to Bellefonte to participate in a high school gymnastics invitational in which each gymnast competed against other gymnasts in their own grade level on Saturday.
In the ninth grade competition, there were nine competitors: SMA’s Mackenzie Neureiter placed in a tie for third on vault and with the tiebreaker placed fourth on vault with an 8.0; third on floor with a 7.9; and received a 6.2 on beam and a 4.95 on bars.

Lady Crusaders top Sheffield Lady Wolverines 62-17

The Lady Crusaders of Elk County Catholic High School picked up their sixth win of the season on Saturday evening as they defeated the Sheffield Lady Wolverines by a 62- 17 score in an AML game played at the Aaron J. Straub Gymnasium on the Elk Catholic campus.
"Tonight's victory was a total team effort, as all 11 members of the squad contributed to the win," said ECCHS Head Coach Ken Pistner following Saturday's game. "We shot the ball very well from both the field and the foul line tonight."

Citizens question supervisors’ compliance with Sunshine Act

WEEDVILLE – After hearing the supervisors’ plans for moving forward without a roadmaster, residents of Jay Township called into question the supervisors’ understanding of Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Act, which dictates that certain meetings must be open to the public.
After supervisors Jeremy Rippey and Francis Gustafson voted to discontinue the roadmaster position, which was previously held by supervisor Murray Lilley, during their reorganizational meeting on Jan. 3, the supervisors held a special meeting on Friday morning to discuss their plans moving forward.
