The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen rallied to beat the Redbank Valley Bulldogs Friday night at Dutch Country Stadium on Senior Night for the Dutch.
The Bulldogs held a 13-7 lead at the half, with the Dutch scoring seven points in the third and seven in the fourth quarter to win the contest 21-13.
“This was a good win, a tough win,” said St. Marys coach Joe Schlimm. “We were not at our best tonight, but we found a way to get it done.”
“We had four kids (starters) that didn’t dress tonight. Give credit to the other kids who stepped in for them tonight,” he added.
KANE – With 36 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Kane was down 13-6 and was facing fourth and long from about the 26-yard line. With a chance to tie the game, quarterback Sean Jordan put a nice pass into the endzone; however, Elk Catholic's Pat Brennen was the player on the receiving end of that pass, sealing the Crusader victory with the interception.
The homicide trial of Lawrence Earl Donachy, 36, of St. Marys, began Monday morning as a 15-member jury heard opening remarks and testimony from four witnesses was heard.
Among the first group of witnesses to take the stand Monday on the opening day of the homicide trial of Lawrence Earl Donachy were Kelly Bauer of St. Marys, the daughter of murder victim Irene Challingsworth; Judith Wendel of St. Marys, a long-time client of Challingsworth; Diane Scutella of St. Marys, a former employee of Consolidated News Agency in 1999; Bill Brem of Tampa, Fla., a retired St. Marys City Police officer; and Cpl. Jeffrey Kunselman of the Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police's Forensic Services Unit.
At Monday's meeting of the St. Marys Area School District's Board of Directors, area residents questioned board members about information contained in a Daily Press article covering last Thursday's work session meeting of the board. At that meeting, SMASD Superintendent Anne Kearney said she had been approached by ELEXCO Land Services Company, with the company requesting permission to conduct seismic testing on the district's property at the Bennetts Valley Elementary School.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the T-Bones Off Road Club has dedicated its 2011 Fall Ride to promote awareness.
" Let’s face it, we’ve all known someone, whether it be family, friend or relative, that has been touched by this disease," said Kellie Mocik, one of the event organizers. "Some of us have lost loved ones to breast cancer while others know a survivor or someone who is battling this horrible disease today."
Earl T. Field, 63, of Middletown, died on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg, after a brief illness.
He was born June 14, 1948 in Camden, N.J., son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Stebick) Field.
He graduated from Milton Hershey School in 1967 and entered the U.S. Air Force after graduation.
