The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders advanced to the quarterfinals of the District 9 Class A volleyball tournament with a 3-0 victory over the Keystone Lady Panthers last night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders won the first set 25-11. They took the second set 25-15 and won the third set 25-16.
Lisa M. Maholtz, 51, of Early Avenue, Ridgway, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2011 at home after a short illness.
She was born June 16, 1960 in Ridgway, the daughter of Kenneth and Elsie (DeLong) Maholtz, who survive.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Chasitie Edmisten of Ridgway; a granddaughter, Nevaeh Edmisten; and a sister, Helen Maholtz-Turner of North Carolina.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy and Orpha DeLong and Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Amy Maholtz. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
ST. MARYS – In order to make health care for area residents more efficient, Elk Regional Health Center (ERHC) has developed the Q Care service for non-urgent health care needs that will allow people to be seen for more minor ailments and avoid lengthy waits in the center's emergency department.
KARTHAUS – With this year's week-long elk hunting season in full swing, Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) personnel and spectators at the elk check station, located at the Game Commission's maintenance shed along the Quehanna Highway in Karthaus, had the opportunity to examine a pair of impressive bulls shortly after the station opened at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
The bulls were both harvested in Zone 7, with one having been shot Monday evening and the other early Tuesday morning.
Officials have secured $150,000 through the Colcom Foundation's grant program, "Marcellus Environmental Fund," for the Headwaters Quality Drinking Water Project.
The initiative reportedly will provide low- to moderate-income families in Jefferson, Elk, Potter, Cameron, Clinton, Centre, Clearfield, and McKean counties with funding to secure chain-of-custody water sample analysis of their private water supplies prior to Marcellus Shale gas well drilling activities.
