There will be no tax increase in the City of St. Marys' 2012 budget. On Monday evening, St. Marys City Council approved to publish the 2012 budget, which includes the same millage rate as last year at 18.3.
City Manager Dave Greene explained the city will see a 42 percent increase in hospitalization for 2012. This will result in the city going from paying $600,000 in insurance premiums to just under $1 million.
ST. MARYS - The Elk-Cameron Board of Realtors recently gifted the Bodien family of Ridgway with various household goods to replace items destroyed in an Aug. 13 house fire at their Fremont Avenue home.
In addressing unfinished business matters, the Fox Township supervisors discussed the request from Jay Township to form a partnership in sharing a Code Enforcement Officer and Sewage Enforcement Officer. Jay supervisors noted they have three other proposals to review, but were awaiting Fox Twp.'s response.
The supervisors agreed to inform the Jay Twp. supervisors that they are not interested in the partnership at this time, but may revisit the topic in the future.
HERSHEY – The Elk County Catholic High School and St. Marys Area High School cross country teams each had a runner medal in the AA Girls' 5K race at the PIAA Finals in Hershey on Saturday. ECC's Kennedy Weisner finished second in a time of 18:52, while SMA's Adair Gennocro was third in 18:58. Angel Piccirillo, a senior at Home-Center, finished first in 18:31.
CLARION - The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team competed in the District 9-AA volleyball championships at Clarion Area High School on Saturday.
The Lady Dutch finished tied for first place with a 2-1 record after pool play along with Bradford and Punxsutawney, necessitating a three-team playoff to decide the District 9-AA champ.
