At last month's meeting of the Jay Township board or supervisors, newly-elected township auditor John Bricen, fresh off his election day write-in victory over opponent Peggy Coppolo acknowledged a controversy involving improprieties with his campaign literature and a resultant complaint filed by Coppolo accusing him of violating election law.
"There seems to be some controversy over my handout literature having the proper documentation on the bottom, having a complaint filed, I understand that, that happens," Bricen said.
James J. â€śJimâ€ť Salvamoser, 71, of 349 Kinzua Avenue, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011.
Born Jan. 9, 1940, in Kane, he was a son of Francis â€śFrankâ€ť and Julia Powley Salvamoser.Â On Aug. 26, 1961, in Mt. Jewett, he married Marjorie Kimbrough who survives. Jim and Margie recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Rosalie Mae Glatt, 73, of 20 Mertz Avenue, St. Marys, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 1, 1938 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Ralph N. and Ruth St. John Dorio. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1956.
On February 2, 1957 in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, she married Andrew Glatt who preceded her in death on September 12, 1995.
Lawrence L. Fantechi, 78, of 136 Rambler Rd., St. Marys, died on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born August 28, 1933 in Byrnedale, son of the late Bruno and Theo Klaiber Fantechi.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Weedville High School, Class of 1951. He was a retired employee of the Pure Carbon Co., retiring in 1998 after 33 years of service.
On June 14, 1958, in the St. Boniface Church, he married Joyce E. Bauer. She survives.
The Cameron County Red Raider wrestling team rallied to defeat the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen by a 43-30 score last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
St. Marys was able to build a 30-6 lead through 152 pounds but were unable to score in the final seven weight classes.
â€śWe didnâ€™t put a point on the board from 152 on and I think our inexperience really showed tonight,â€ť said St. Marys coach Dominic Surra.
â€śWeâ€™re a little banged up and moved some kids around tonight and it showed,â€ť said Surra.
â€śHats off to Cameron County, they wrestled tonight. We just didnâ€™t do it,â€ť added coach Surra.
George "Pizza" Pirraglia, 62, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Penfield, died late Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh after a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 31, 1949 in DuBois, son of the late Anthony "Dent" and Dolly (Cota) Pirraglia.
JAY TOWNSHIP - With Jay Township seeing an increasingly and particularly strong presence of Marcellus Shale activity, how the community could best protect its interests as the gas industry continues its proliferation in the area was a topic of discussion at Thursday night's meeting of the board of supervisors.
BENEZETTE â€“Â With Christmas less than two weeks away, holiday cheer is evident throughout the community, and at the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette. The center has had its Christmas tree on display since late November and is once again looking for ornaments to decorate it.
According to Carla Wehler, Elk Country Visitor Center Operations Manager, the tree is bigger than last year's and was selected by staff members Brandi Hanes, Jean Germer, and Scott Rhodes.
