Post-sentencing hearing for Kralik continued

RIDGWAY - On Thursday afternoon Edward R. Kralik, 68, of St. Marys, went before Elk County President Judge Richard Masson as part of a Post-Conviction Relief Act (PCRA) hearing. Kralik pleaded guilty in May to third-degree murder in the June 2010 homicide of Clayton Lecker of St. Marys and is currently incarcerated at State Correction Institution (SCI) Smithfield in Huntingdon.
Leanne Nedza, Kralik's attorney, stated the purpose of the hearing is that Kralik "was not afforded effective assistance of council when he made his plea."

New president and VP elected at SMASD meeting

At Thursday's meeting of the St. Marys School District Board of Directors, a number of members were sworn into their new positions following the Nov. 8 Elk Co. municipal elections.

Leaders in Training Final Session

The Leaders in Training I (LIT) program just completed their ninth year with a closing program at the Ridgway Area High School. This program was open to all students in eighth grade in any of the Elk County schools. The LIT I program is a very hands-on program that began in September with a trip to Camp Mountain Run. Besides the trip to Camp Mountain Run, activities included government day at the Elk County Courthouse, a financial management workshop, team building, community service project, communication skills, a community awareness project and a sleepover.
