Gilberta R. Myers

Gilberta R. Myers, 81, of 408 Oak St., Ridgway, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born January 23, 1930, in Portland Mills, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth Jefferson DeCecchis.
On April 12, 1947, she married Howard H. Myers Jr., who survives.

Mary E. Dornish

Mary E. Dornish, 90, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 2985 State St., St. Marys, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor.
She was born April 21, 1920, in Ridgway, daughter of the late Joseph Ulrich and Mabel Marshall Dornish.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1938. She taught swimming at the former Marshall Swimming Pool and had worked for the Forest Service and did clerical work.

Little Texas set to rock St. Marys

Just over 300 tickets are left for the upcoming Little Texas concert taking place Saturday, March 5 at the St. Marys Area High School auditorium.
"We started out with 1,334 tickets, which went on sale shortly before Christmas and are down to the last couple of hundred," said Sandy Buerk, co-owner of St. Marys Auto Body, which is sponsoring the concert.
According to Buerk, patrons purchased tickets from as far away as Cincinnati, Ohio, Wilkes-Barre and several from the Pittsburgh area.

City residents encouraged to properly display house numbers

St. Marys resident Elizabeth Friedl recently brought to city council's attention the lack of house numbers on many residences throughout the city.
Appearing at a city council meeting in January, Friedl presented council members with a hypothetical situation regarding a potential emergency at a residence that does not have its house number properly displayed.

Officials highlight senior centers

With a new fiscal year comes project recommendations from the county's planning department, and the emphasis this year is on the area's senior centers.
During a board of commissioners meeting Tuesday morning, Tracy D. Gerber, serving as Community Development Block Grant [CDBG] coordinator for the county, discussed several tentative projects.
"The Bennetts Valley Senior Center project is now finally out for bid and it's been several years in the making," said Gerber as she indicated advertisements for bids were first published Saturday.

Dippold tends resignation as district manager

District manager Robert Dippold resigned from the Elk County Conservation District on Tuesday, Jan. 11 after working for the district for over 20 years.
“Most of you know, I met with Bob [Dippold] to discuss some of those issues and the following week he tended his resignation,” said conservation district chairman Russ Braun. “As a result of a performance review, he decided to hang it up.
“With that being said, we need to start searching for a new manager.”
