Fashion Bug throwing a 'fit' for CAPSEA

Employees of the Fashion Bug store in St. Marys wanted to do something to help make a difference in the community, so they decided to throw a "fit."
Today and Sunday, they are holding a free bra-fitting event for customers who stop in order to collect donations for the shelter run by Citizens Against Physical, Sexual and Emotional Abuse, Inc. (CAPSEA), a nonprofit organization that provides services for victims of domestic and sexual violence and other serious crime victims in Elk and Cameron counties.

Auditors set wage for Lilley

A special meeting of the Jay Township Auditors was held at 4 p.m. on Feb. 2 to set a wage for Murray Lilley, who was hired by the township in the position of maintenance/laboror after formerly serving as roadmaster. The Jay Township Auditors are Richard Gavazzi, Lynn Antonelli and Jane Caretti.
The Jay Township Supervisors had voted to eliminate the roadmaster position at their reorganizational meeting in January and decided that the duties which were formerly the responsibility of the roadmaster will now be split between the three supervisors.

Schneider issues 2010 fire report

John M. Schneider, fire chief of the Jay Township Volunteer Fire Co., attended Thursday evening's meeting of the Jay Township Supervisors to deliver the department's 2010 fire report.
According to Schneider, the department responded to 95 calls during 2010 within Jay and Benezette townships.

Phyllis M. Kerr

Phyllis M. Kerr, 86, of 509 Woodland Ave., Johnsonburg, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Edward and Anna Mullen Haser.
She married John L. Kerr on June 21, 1947 in Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg. He died on Oct. 1, 1998.
She resided in Johnsonburg all her life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1942.

Thomas G. Anderson

Thomas G. Anderson, 69, of 577 Kerner Ave., St. Marys, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center following an illness of the past year.
He was born Sept. 3, 1941, in St. Marys, son of the late Arthur and Bertha Selle Anderson.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1960. He was a retired employee of OSRAM Sylvania, retiring on Dec. 31, 1999, after 38 years of service.
On July 10, 1981, in the St. Mary's Church, he married Mary E. Nero, who survives.

Crusaders reach AML finals with 49-42 OT win

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders advanced to tonight’s Allegheny Mountain League championship game by defeating the DuBois Central Cardinals 49-42 in overtime Friday at the ECCHS gym.
The Crusaders will meet the Ridgway Elkers who defeated the Johnsonburg Rams 56-38 last night at Ridgway for the league title. The game is set for 8 p.m. at St. Marys Area High School.

Lady Crusaders advance to AML Title Game

DuBOIS - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders jumped out to an early lead on Friday evening in the AML semifinal game against the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals and never looked back, as they won by a 40-29 score to advance to the championship game tonight at St. Marys Area.
The Elk Catholic girls were the No. 2 team out to the AML North and the DuBois Central Catholic girls were the No. 1 team out of the AML South.

Lady Dutch overpower Ridgway for win No. 21

RIDGWAY – Backed by a 23-point performance from senior Kayla Hoohuli, the visiting Lady Dutch (21-1) nearly doubled Ridgway's (1-21) output Friday night in a 70-37 victory over the Lady Elkers.
"I thought we ran the court pretty well and played man-to-man defense very well," said St. Marys head girls' varsity basketball coach Bob Swanson after capping off a 21-1 season. "We tried a couple zones but Ridgway shot the ball well [Friday night] and I think they're a much-improved ball club.
