The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team raised their District 9 League record to 5-2 with a 41-24 victory over the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks last night at Punxsutawney.
The Lady Crusaders were able to take a 23-13 lead at the half. In the second half, Elk Catholic outscored their hosts by an 18-11 margin to come out on top 41-24.
“We had very good interior defense tonight,” said ECCHS Coach Ken Pistner. “We protected the ball well tonight, as we only committed 12 turnovers.
“We also had a balanced scoring attack.”
The Bradford Owls handed the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch basketball team a 51-47 District 9 League setback last night at Bradford Area High School.
The game was tied at 37 after three quarters of play. In the final eight minutes, the Owls outscored the Dutchmen 14-10 to win the game.
“It was a bad night all the way around,” said Dutch coach Mark Guido.
“We didn’t convert our free throws,” he said, noting that his team was five of 15 from the charity stripe.
“They (Bradford) did a nice job of shutting down our scorers,” added Guido.
