As part of the reorganization of the newly established Elk County Catholic School System, several administrative positions were announced Thursday afternoon during a brief press conference at the St. Marys Catholic Middle School.
St. Marys Planning Commission member Matt Quesenberry explained to members of the planning commission and city council earlier this week that the city's ability to limit oil and gas drilling in certain sections of the city is limited by the regulations that currently exist under the state's Oil and Gas Act.

Area officials have been keeping a close eye on the state's budget proceedings and are anxious to see the "trickle-down" effect that it will have at a local level.
According to Eric Bridges, executive director of the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission [NCPRPDC], the spending plan will impact the six-county region that the entity serves.

After being looked over by a structural engineer while police officials from Ridgway Borough and the Ridgway-based state police concluded investigations, owner Ed Aiello said Thursday night he is confident that the fire-damaged building at 205 Main St. in downtown Ridgway will remain standing.
Trooper Greg Agosti, a fire marshal for the Pennsylvania State Police, completed the investigation Wednesday and reported that the cause of the fire was determined to be an overheated electrical outlet located in apartment 2B on the second floor of the 3-story brick building.
Helen L. Shields, 94, of Summerville, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Jefferson Manor of Brookville.
She was born Aug. 16, 1916 in Brookville, the daughter of the late Arthur C. DeMotte and Gertrude Carberry DeMotte.
At the Baptist Church in Brookville, she married Blair E. Shields, who preceded her in death
Florence S. Dietz, 88, of 7452 Ridgway-St. Marys Rd., Ridgway, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Ridgway, daughter of the late United and Etta Mae (Birchfield) States.
On July 21, 1951, she married Paul E. Dietz , who preceded her in death on April 10, 1999.

RIDGWAY – Officials announced Wednesday morning that a deal between Elk County officials and the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission [NCPRPDC] may be imminent as the Industrial Technical Education Center [ITEC] building hangs in the balance.
During a joint meeting between members of the St. Marys City Council and St. Marys Planning Commission to discuss ways to protect certain community resources, such as the water supply, from oil and gas drilling, the creation of a new Water Resource Protection Zone was proposed.
Now in her second year working at St. Marys Area High School, Certified Athletic Trainer Ashley Mulcahy, 25, is working to keep Dutch athletes in top physical shape by helping to prevent and diagnose injuries, provide rehabilitation and monitor their condition.
"I chose to go into the athletic training field because I think it's a nice combination of athletics and medicine," Mulcahy said.
March marks National Athletic Training Month as recognized by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), through which Mulcahy is accredited.
Elk County recycling/solid waste coordinator Bekki Titchner announced during the Elk County Solid Waste Authority meeting on Tuesday afternoon that the group has registered its three upcoming tire collections through the Great American Cleanup of PA.
The authority had previously discussed the matter during their February meeting; however, at that time they were uncertain as to the dates and times that the collections would be held.
