As part of the reorganization of the newly established Elk County Catholic School System, several administrative positions were announced Thursday afternoon during a brief press conference at the St. Marys Catholic Middle School.
St. Marys Planning Commission member Matt Quesenberry explained to members of the planning commission and city council earlier this week that the city's ability to limit oil and gas drilling in certain sections of the city is limited by the regulations that currently exist under the state's Oil and Gas Act.

Area officials have been keeping a close eye on the state's budget proceedings and are anxious to see the "trickle-down" effect that it will have at a local level.

After being looked over by a structural engineer while police officials from Ridgway Borough and the Ridgway-based state police concluded investigations, owner Ed Aiello said Thursday night he is confident that the fire-damaged building at 205 Main St. in downtown Ridgway will remain standing.
Trooper Greg Agosti, a fire marshal for the Pennsylvania State Police, completed the investigation Wednesday and reported that the cause of the fire was determined to be an overheated electrical outlet located in apartment 2B on the second floor of the 3-story brick building.
Helen L. Shields, 94, of Summerville, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Jefferson Manor of Brookville.
She was born Aug. 16, 1916 in Brookville, the daughter of the late Arthur C. DeMotte and Gertrude Carberry DeMotte.

Florence S. Dietz, 88, of 7452 Ridgway-St. Marys Rd., Ridgway, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Ridgway, daughter of the late United and Etta Mae (Birchfield) States.
On July 21, 1951, she married Paul E. Dietz , who preceded her in death on April 10, 1999.
