James J. Curci

James J. Curci, 83, of West Seneca, N.Y., died at Mercy Hospital on June 11, 2011.
He was born July 22, 1927, in Ridgway, the son of the late Harry and Susan Minilli Curci.
He married Gerda A. Oechsle, who survives.
He was the proud owner of the Queen City Dental Lab for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a veteran of WWII.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Harry Curci of Sutton, Mass. and Anthony Curci of Phoneix, Ariz.; and by a sister, Theresa Marroni of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys.

Township to consider prohibiting ATV use on roadways

The Jay Township Supervisors are considering revoking ATV use on township roads following an accident last week in which two area teenagers were killed.
That crash occurred along Mt. Zion Road on Wednesday evening, resulting in the deaths of two 16-year-old St. Marys Area High School students, Steven Glatt of St. Marys and Allen Gursky of Weedville. The cause of the crash was attributed to the teens driving too fast for conditions.

Gymnastics program vote tabled until next meeting

A unanimous decision to table discussions about the possible elimination of the St Marys Area High School gymnastics program was approved during the Monday evening meeting of the school district's Board of Directors meeting.
Several gymnasts, parents and Irene McCandless, team coach, were in attendance at the meeting to discuss the issue; however, with the July board meeting cancelled, all those involved may have to wait for any decision or discussion until the board's August meeting.

911 Center back up and running

Elk County Commissioner Daniel R. Freeburg reported late Thursday night that the county's 911 Center was again fully operational following a late Tuesday evening evacuation due to noxious fumes.
According to Freeburg, a complete run-through had been completed and no remnants were detected.
Commissioners reported last Friday that back-up batteries were fuming during a charge process.
