St. Marys 10-11 baseball stars reach D-10 finals, beat DuBois 4-3

A single by St. Marys’ Gabe Kraus in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Hayden Tettis to give the St. Marys team a 4-3 victory over DuBois last night at Memorial Park in the finals of the winner’s bracket of the District 10 Tournament.
St. Marys tied the game at 3-all in the home half of the sixth inning to force the extra frame. DuBois led 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth.
St. Marys had five hits in the contest, all singles. Getting those hits were Hayden Tettis, Timmy Wehler, Gabe Kraus (the game winner), Logan Hoffman and Alex O’Neill.

St. Marys Junior Sofball all-stars beat Ridgway 7-3

The Ridgway softball 13- and 14-year-old all-stars lost 7-3 to St. Marys in action Thursday at the Ridgway Little League fields located along Grant Road.
St. Marys took the lead in the first inning. The St. Marys all-stars were designated as the visiting team and Jackie Lenze led off the game with a single. Lenze would eventually score the game's first run on a wild pitch. Rachel Stauffer walked with one out and would score on a Ridgway throwing error to make the lead 2-0 for St. Marys after half an inning.

St. Marys Minor Softball Stars fall to DuBois 10-9

The St. Marys Little League Softball Minor League All-Stars put up a good fight, but ultimately fell to DuBois 10-9 on Thursday evening in a game that saw the lead change four times.
Rebekka Bauer worked all six innings for St. Marys, giving up eight hits, walking eight and striking out eight. DuBois' Molly Nosker also went the distance, giving up six hits, walking three and striking out 14.

Skrzypek withdraws from district justice nomination

According to the Elk County Bureau of Elections and Voter Registration, Stephen P. Skrzypek of Kersey has withdrawn from the race for Magisterial District Justice 59-3-03. Skrzypek withdrew his candidacy on July 5, according to the elections bureau.
In the primary election held May 17, Skrzypek won the Democratic nomination and was set to face Republican primary ballot winner Mark S. Jacob of St. Marys in the Nov. 8 general election. Both candidates cross-filed on the ballots.

Supervisors contemplate subcontract work

At Wednesday's regular meeting, Fox Township Supervisor Dave Mattiuz introduced a motion that any work being subcontracted within the township should be required to come before the board for permission. He added this would exclude any work having to be completed in an emergency situation.
Supervisor chairman Mike Keller noted that this would be very restrictive and that the proposal should include a specific dollar amount of work, adding any work under $500 should be exempt.
Roadmaster and supervisor Randy Gradizzi said he disagrees with the proposed motion.

Kenneth L. (Chunk) Danekas

Kenneth L. (Chunk) Danekas, 33, of 28 Lincoln St., Ridgway, died Thursday morning, July 7, 2011, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 10, 1977, in Sycamore, Ill., son of David D. and Jane M. (Fischer) Danekas. He married Kerri E. Brendel on June 19, 2004.
He had resided in Ridgway for 19 years and was a former Janesville, Wisc. resident. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the U.S. Bowling Congress.

E. Tom Wolff

E. Tom Wolff, 65, of 4172 Grant Rd., Ridgway, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at his residence.
He was born Dec. 26, 1945 in Ridgway, son of the late Clarence H. (Pug) and Ruby M. (Amacher) Wolff.
He married Judy L. Ecklund on Sept. 30, 1967. She survives.
