Memorial tree, plaque honor Sgt. Ken VanGiesen

A memorial tree was planted Sunday at the Kane Armory along Chestnut Street to honor Staff Sgt. Kenneth VanGiesen, a Kane native who was killed July 18 while serving in Afghanistan with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
A bronze plaque honoring the soldier was installed at the base of the tree.
"The tree is something that will always remind us of him," Lt. Drew Campbell said during the ceremony. "We wanted to do something unique because he was unique. His life may have ended, but the tree will continue to grow in his memory."

Changes proposed to improve downtown parking

A parking committee consisting of city councilmen Bob Roberts and Steve Skok and City Manager Dave Greene recently held its second meeting with area residents to discuss proposed changes to parking in the downtown area as the parking garage being constructed downtown is nearing completion.

Raymond A. Feldbauer

Raymond A. Feldbauer, 74, of 250 Euclid Avenue, Ridgway, died Friday, August 19, 2011 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born November 10, 1936 in St. Marys. On March 28, 1959, in St. Marys, he married Judith Rouqez, who preceded him in death in 1975. On February 21, 1976, in the St. Mary's Church, he married Ann Ehrensberger, who survives.

Mary E. Stahli

Mary E. Stahli, 83, of Worrall Street, Wilcox, died at home Saturday, August 20, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
She was born May 5, 1928 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Francis P. and Maude (Fellows) McCabe. On March 17, 1949, she married Harold Stahli, who preceded her in death on August 16, 1987.
She lived all her life in Johnsonburg and Wilcox and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She was employed by Stackpole Carbon of Johnsonburg for many years and the Grant House of Wilcox.

Roger A. "Bucky" Taylor

Roger A. “Bucky” Taylor, 59, of 222 Lawrence Street, St. Marys, died Friday, August 19, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born July 29, 1952 in St. Marys, son of the late Kenneth Taylor and Anna Kematick Taylor of St. Marys, who survives. On October 5, 2002, in the St. Boniface Church, he married Cindy Rigard, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area, was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1970, and graduated from Jeff Tech in 1988. He was a former employee of the Stackpole Carbon Co. and Metaldyne.
