RIDGWAY - The second part of a Post-Conviction Relief Act (PCRA) hearing, filed by Edward R. Kralik, 68, of St. Marys, took place Friday afternoon at the Elk County Courthouse. The first portion of the hearing took place December 8, 2011.
Kralik plead guilty in May to third-degree murder in the June 2010 homicide of Clayton Lecker of St. Marys and is currently incarcerated at State Correction Institution (SCI) Smithfield in Huntingdon.
It looks like Mother Nature finally remembered that it is supposed to be wintertime in St. Marys. After a relatively mild winter so far, city residents had to deal with several inches of snow on Thursday afternoon and weather forecasts called for several more inches to accumulate overnight Friday into today.
WEEDVILLE - Thursday's meeting of the Jay Township Supervisors included a presentation by Pa. Wildlife Commission Officer Dody McDowell, who spoke on the increase in elk in the Weedville area, linking the occurrence to artificial or supplemental feeding and detailing the dangers it poses to animals and people alike.
McDowell indicated the general consensus within the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) is that artificial feeding in the winter is one of the strongest contributing factors to the growing presence of elk in Weedville.
