Joseph G. Kronenwetter

Joseph G. Kronenwetter, 92, of 617 Sunset Rd., St. Marys, died on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at Pinecrest Manor following an illness of the past six months.
He was born Jan. 18, 1920 in St. Marys, son of the late George E. and Kathryn Grant Kronenwetter.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1940. He also took businesses courses at Penn State. He was a retired employee of Stackpole Carbon Co., retiring in 1983 with over 40 years of service.

Kersey residents sail off on Semester at Sea

Kersey residents Dennis McGeehan and his wife Deb Shaw have embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. The couple will be on Semester at Sea, a ship that provides educational learning experiences for college students while sailing worldwide to many ports of call.

The North Central Workforce Investment Board, along with Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center and Penn College of Technology, recently implemented a ShaleNET Floor Hand class for 14 participants from various counties throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio. The PA CareerLink, comprised of North Central Workforce, Veteran’s Administration and Bureau of Workforce Development Staff, assisted in the recruitment of job-seekers hoping to start a new career in the natural gas industry to utilize the new program.

SMA swim teams split with DuBois squads

DuBOIS - The St. Marys Area swim and dive team traveled to DuBois on Thursday night to take on the Beavers for their fourth dual meet of the season. The Dutchmen remain undefeated on the season as they won their meet 110-65, while the Lady Dutch lost a close contest, 100-84, bringing their record to 1-3.
Individual leaders for the Dutchmen were Jeffrey Moore in the boys’ 200 and 500 yard freestyles, Andrew Cotter in the 200 yard individual medley, Jake Burns in 1m diving,  Corey Koss in the 100 yard backstroke and Scott Barber in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Penalty phase for Rebert begins

BROOKVILLE — As the penalty phase for Steven P. Rebert began Thursday — two days after he was found guilty of killing Wayne and Victoria Shugar, both 61, in their Coal Tipple Road residence in April 2010 — District Attorney Jeffrey Burkett reminded the jury that it’s not all about whether it sends Rebert to prison for the rest of his life, or it sentences him      to death.
The phase during which the jury explored Rebert’s innocence or guilt is over: The jury found him guilty of killing the Shugars, Burkett said, “and now, it’s not just about Steven Rebert anymore.
