DuBOIS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader doubles duo of Laira Reuscher and Sophie Herzing, both seniors, defeated their cross-town rivals of Aubrey Wiesner and Chelsea Agosti from St. Marys Area 6-2, 6-1 to claim the District 9 Class AA doubles title on Tuesday afternoon at DuBois Area High School.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch squad a 3-0 setback in a match played at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders won the first set by a 25-17 margin. They won the second and third set by identical 25-21 scores to win the match.
RIDGWAY - Tough scoring conditions met both Ridgway and Elk County Catholic but the Elkers were able to defeat the Crusaders 212-220 in action Tuesday afternoon at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
Josh Roselli of Ridgway was the medalist for the day with his score of 36.
"The scores were high for the two top teams in District 9 as Laurel Mill Golf Course played tough," Ridgway coach Dave Zawatski said. "Give Josh Roselli credit for being that guy that we have been searching for and going low to make the difference."
BELLEFONTE – "It's a story of betrayal."
This is how presiding Senior Trial Court Judge John Cleland of Kane labels the child sexual abuse case against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.
Cleland, speaking Tuesday before sentencing at a packed Centre County courtroom in Bellefonte, told the defendant "you abused trust in those who trusted you." He said Sandusky "expertly deceived" his victims-- 10 young boys who were molested by the defendant over a 15-year period.
ST. MARYS - A St. Marys man charged with arson and related offenses after allegedly setting fire to his father's home waived his preliminary hearing on Tuesday before District Judge Mark Jacob.
Steven Ray Hulings, 25, of St. Marys, was in District Court Tuesday after being charged on Oct. 4 for a July 14 arson at the 137 Lynch Rd. home of his father and stepmother, who were away on an out-of-town camping trip at the time of the incident.
The Northwest Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center (NWIRC) were just one of the organizations that played a role in the recent opening of the TAT Technology Development and Training (TDT) Center in St. Marys.
During TAT's open house, Erin Heath, district manager of NWIRC based in DuBois, who worked closely with TAT Technologies President Harb Nayar, PhD, of Summit, N.J. in assisting with getting the business up and running, referred to industry trends being reported by industry groups and national accounting firms.

RIDGWAY - The Salvation Army in Ridgway will continue to shoot for the sky as Lieutenant Esther Wilson, Core Officer, takes the reins at the church and community center.
A third-generation Salvationist, Wilson went into the training school in Suffern, N.Y., roughly 45 minutes away from New York City, and her first appointment in Ridgway started back in July.
"As an ordained minister, the Salvation Army is a church, first and foremost," Wilson said. "Everything that we do is based on the love of God and the love that He has for us, and we extend that to the community.
Ronald L. Holmberg, age 74, of 322 Dewey Circle, Ridgway, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at UPMC Hamot in Erie following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 17, 1938 in Ridgway, son of the late Clarence J. and Hazel B. (Dunkle) Holmberg.
He married Nancy H. Peterson on Nov. 7, 1959; she survives.
SMA travels to ECC tonight
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Curwensville Golden Tide Monday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
Curwensville won the first set by a 25-22 score. The Lady Dutch came back to knot the match at one set apiece by taking the second set 25-17. St. Marys won the third set by a 25-20 margin and won the match by winning the fourth set by the score of 25-18.
Redbank Valley may have scored all three of the goals in Monday afternoon's girls' soccer "pink match" at the St. Marys Area High School soccer field, but for the first 68:53 of the game it looked as though the Lady Dutch were going to cruise to a 1-0 victory. Instead, the Lady Bulldogs added a pair of goals in the final 11:07 to come away with the 2-1 win.
