With Hurricane Sandy set to hit the East Coast late Sunday, state and local agencies and area residents are preparing for what might happen.
Governor Tom Corbett on Friday declared a statewide disaster emergency in advance of Hurricane Sandy to enable state, county and municipal governments to respond effectively to what is anticipated to be a significant impact.
The current average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline in Western PA is $3.781, down 9 cents per gallon from a week ago.
This week’s average prices: Western PA Average: $3.781; Average price during the week of October 16, 2012 - $3.871; Average price during the week of October 25, 2011 - $3.480. Today’s National Average Price - $3.648.
ST. MARYS – Work to improve Route 255 in Fox Township and St. Marys is shutting down for the winter, and all lanes between Greenbriar Drive and Tractor Supply are now open.
Mary E. Knepp, 92, of 185 Center Street, Elk Towers, St. Marys, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born July 15, 1920 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Chessaro and Louise Ortense Bologna. On Jan. 31, 1949 in Lewistown, she married Edward L. Knepp, who preceded her in death on March 8, 1956.
Floyd D. Beale died at 11:10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport.Â
Floyd was born on Feb. 19, 1923 on the Harbison Farm in Buffalo Township, Butler County. He was the son of the late Ralph Edward Beale and Ethel Jane (Walters) Beale. He was the widower of Phyllis June (Brothers) Beale, who died in 1992. Floyd and Phyllis married on Nov. 19, 1947 in the Freeport Gospel Tabernacle in Freeport.

PITTSBURGH - In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Pittsburgh Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is participating in a charity auction featuring 46 items of Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins memorabilia. After the auction ends Saturday, October 27, at 10 p.m., Total Sports Enterprise will donate all proceeds from the auction to the Komen Pittsburgh Affiliate.
The Internal Revenue Service is issuing a warning about a new tax scam that uses a website that mimics the IRS e-Services online registration page.
