October 14th
Justin F. Latcovich, 31, of 1037 East Center St., Johnsonburg, died unexpectedly on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012.
He was born on May 21, 1981 in Ridgway, the son of Stephen F. and Christine M. (Pawlk) Latcovich.
On Aug. 30, 2008, he married Julia A. Moriarity, who survives.
Justin had resided in northwestern Pennsylvania all of his life. He had attended Triangle Tech. He was a former employee of Walmart in the maintenance department. He loved his children and enjoyed boating, music, and camping.
October 12th
This season, when you see the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Marching Band, "The Legend" - under the direction of Dr. Martynuik, you will see three familiar faces and local graduates of Chapter XI schools/Allegheny Mountain Region.
This year's executive leader is Scott Shuttleworth (center), an IUP senior and graduate of St. Marys Area High School; Joe Boboige (left), an IUP junior and graduate of DuBois High School; and Cortney Foote (right), an IUP sophmore and graduate of Elk County Catholic High School. All three students are music education majors.

The Crystal Fire Department held an open house on Thursday evening at their main station on Erie Avenue. The event was held in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week. From 6-9 p.m., children had the opportunity to participate in a kids' obstacle course and climb on and in all the apparatus. Coloring books and firefighter helmets were available to all those who attended. The ladder truck performed a demonstration which featured two firemen being raised up to the top of the outside of the building, where they changed one of the station's outdoor lightbulbs.
The City of St. Marys would like to announce the annual Leaf Collection Program will begin Monday, Oct. 22. The following is the tentative schedule of the leaf machine and which areas will be included:

Week of Oct. 29:
L. Harrison "Harry" Schneider, 84, of 1221 E. Eschbach Rd., St. Marys, died on Thursday evening, Oct. 11, 2012 at Dubois Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 17, 1928 in St. Marys, a son of the late Louis J. and Christina M. Mertz Schneider.
On April 23, 1949 in St. Marys Church, he married Grace Entres Schneider, who survives.

HARRISBURG — Governor Tom Corbett today proclaimed Oct. 14-20 as Teen Driver Safety Week, noting two significant pieces of legislation that he signed into law in the past year aimed at increasing safety for teens.
Corbett’s proclamation coincides with the safety week’s national observance.
In the past year, Corbett signed Act 81, which enhanced teen driver safety by strengthening the graduated driver licensing law, and Act 84, which requires safety training for 16- and 17-year-olds seeking motorcycle licenses.
In observation of Fire Prevention Week, the Crystal Fire Department held an Open House at their main station on Erie Avenue on Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m. Firefighters were on hand as they hosted a children's obstacle course, showcased their several trucks and their uses and performed a demonstration on the ladder truck. The department's archives were on hand for public view as well.
St. Marys City Council will be holding its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, October 15, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Room of City Hall, 11 LaFayette St.

Jane "Jennie" Francis, 93, of Silver Creek Terrace, St. Marys, formerly of Johnsonburg and St. Marys, died at the Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys on Thursday morning, Oct. 11, 2012 following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 3, 1919 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Stephen and Grace Scrivo Vavala.
She married William "Bill" Francis on March 6, 1943; he preceded her in death in August of 1986.
She had resided in St. Marys for the past three years, had lived in Johnsonburg from 1987 to 2009 and had lived in St. Marys prior to 1987.
Charles B. Wolff, 85, of Daguscahonda, died on Wednesday evening, Oct. 10, 2012 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois following a brief illness.
He was born May 28, 1927 in St. Marys, a son of the late Miles R. and Margaret Watson Wolff.
On July 2, 1949 in Ridgway, he married E. Louise Eynon Wolff, who preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 1998.
Mr. Wolff retired from Stackpole Carbon as a truck driver and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Ridgway Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
