The Bucktail Council, Boy Scouts of America covers an area including Elk, Cameron, Jefferson and Clearfield counties, and the western portion of Centre County, and consists of 2,300 scouts and nearly 1,000 leaders, according to scout executive Greg Bennett.
ST. MARYS - Area residents seeking some Christmas spirit and holiday cheer need look no further than the Queen of the World Church on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m., when area musicians will gather for this year's Nicholas J. Sinibaldi Concert Band Christmas Spectacular Concert. This year's concert band is under the direction of director Chris Gankosky.
Elk Regional Health Center has been busy fundraising to support its patients, especially those who use the Women’s Imaging Center. Elk Regional was recently a part of the “Bras for a Cause” event at the Elk Mountain Winery, participated in the Bavarian Fall Fest and held a 5K run/walk and a four-hour Zumba fitness party.
Walter J. Snelick Jr. , 80, of 105 Laurel Lane, Kersey, died at his home on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 24, 1932 in Byrnedale, a son of the late Walter J. and Catherine Maday Snelick.
Leo William "Bill" Burlingame, 87, of 6718 Route 120, Emporium, died at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport on Thursday evening, Nov. 29, 2012.
He was born Nov. 21, 1925 in Howard Siding, Pa., a son of the late Leo R. and Neva Summerson Burlingame. On Oct. 12, 1947 he and his wife, Dolores "Dee" Crosby Burlingame, were married in the first wedding to take place in the older Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.

The dates have already been set for upcoming prescription medicine collection events in Elk County, according to a discussion at the county's Solid Waste Authority meeting on Tuesday. Elk County Recycling/Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner said medicine collections for 2013 will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 and Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Education Center at Elk Regional Health Center. A pharmacist will be on hand for both collections.
The area's newest State Farm Insurance Agency recently opened its doors during a ribbon cutting held at 1060 Million Dollar Highway in St. Marys. State Farm Agent Eric Hager along with several members of his staff and the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce gathered for the occasion, celebrating the new business.
The spirit of Christmas is alive and well in the basement of Ridgway resident Jack Cleaver.
Hundreds of holiday pieces, over 125 illuminated buildings and structures, including Times Square equipped with the New Year's Eve ball, and two trains and a trolley, compose Cleaver's Christmas Village.

JOHNSONBURG - A Brockport man, the subject of a four-month-long federal investigation that culminated in the execution of a search warrant at his home by federal and state authorities, waived his preliminary hearing on the resultant drug and weapons charges in District Court 59-3-02 Wednesday.
JOHNSONBURG - Two Johnsonburg men charged with the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl whom they allegedly picked up outside a slumber party at a St. Marys home waived their preliminary hearings in District Court 59-3-02 Wednesday.
