Now in its 17th year, St. Marys resident Laura Kuntz continues to collect donations for her Christmas in Kentucky program, a project which furnishes less fortunate families with Christmas gifts as well as everyday necessities.
Three years ago, following the implementation of $20,000 in cuts to the St. Marys Public Library's state funding, library director Scarlette Corbin first contacted the St. Marys Area United Way to request financial assistance in the form of a United Way allocation.
Rita M. Anzinger, 93, a resident of Christ the King Manor in DuBois and formerly of 219 Wendel Rd., St. Marys, died on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at Christ the King Manor following a lengthy illness.
She was born on May 9, 1919 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Schneider Leithner.
On June 8, 1936, in the St. Mary's Church, she married Wilfred E. Anzinger, who preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1989.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School.
Area residents counted down to light up downtown St. Marys during Friday's annual Light Up Night festivities.
