School board to meet in Bennetts Valley

November 1, 2012

A public meeting to discuss the possible demolition of the old portion of the Bennetts Valley Elementary School will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bennetts Valley Elementary School gymnasium. The workshop meeting of the St. Marys Area Board of School Directors will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium. Items on the agenda include board procedures, general school affairs, business affairs, student activities, buildings and grounds, curriculum, transportation, personnel and any other matters that may come before the board.

City Council to meet Monday

St. Marys City Council will be holding a worksession on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Room of City Hall, 11 LaFayette Street.

USDA announces chicken nugget recall

WASHINGTON – Perdue Foods, LLC, a Bridgewater, Va. establishment, is recalling approximately 1,440 pounds of chicken breast nugget products because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen, milk, not declared on the label, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday.   

Earl C. Lecker

Earl C. Lecker, 78, of St. Marys, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 while visiting his daughter, Amy Lecker Lynn, in Bristow, Va.
Earl was born May 27, 1934 in St. Marys, a son of the late Norbert and Caroline Lecker, and was one of 11 children.
On Nov. 21, 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy and fought in the Korean War. He devoted four years of his life serving our country, and was very proud to be a Korean War veteran.

Paula R. Carr

November 1, 2012

Paula R. Carr, 65, of E. Scribner Ave., DuBois, died on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
She was born on Oct. 12, 1947 in DuBois, daughter of the late Paul and Mary Buskirk Bloom.
Paula was a member of the V.F.W. Club in DuBois. She was Methodist by faith. She also enjoyed dancing, taking walks and camping. Above all, she loved spending time and being with Harry Hepburn.
Paula had worked in the housekeeping department at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
