Women Who Care has disbursed their 2012 grant checks to four deserving organizations. Women Who Care (WWC) was established to provide a vehicle for nonprofit organizations to apply for funds to strengthen the quality of life for families in our local communities.
RIDGWAY - With budget constraints looming and a shortfall in funding, officials at the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission [NCPRPDC] are looking at different ways to fund their Rural Planning Organization [RPO].
Henry C. Friedl, 81, of Jersey Hollow Rd. in Little Valley, N.Y. ,died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012.
He was born Sept. 29, 1931 in St. Marys, the son of the late Charles and Bertha (Wonderly) Friedl. He married Bonnie Hart-Friedl, who survives.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1953. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver. He was an avid outdoorsman and a member of the Little Valley American Legion.
John R. Guy, 84, of Fayetteville, died on Sunday, Nov. at his home.
He was born May 19, 1928 in Crenshaw, the son of the late John and Marie Guy.
Alice J. Smith, 92, of Gardner Hill, Weedville, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Christ the King Manor after a short illness.
She was born June 11, 1920 in Brandy Camp.
On Dec. 21, 1935 she married Gilbert Smith, who preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1987.
A homemaker, she lived most of her life on Gardner Hill. She was a member of the Gardner Hill Church and Bennetts Valley Senior Center.

RIDGWAY - At their Tuesday afternoon meeting, members of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority discussed how the state's new electronics waste disposal law will affect area residents once it is implemented on Jan. 24, 2013.
In an effort to supplement the clothing needs of infants, toddlers and children whose families struggle financially, the Guardian Angel Center in Kersey relies heavily on funding from the St. Marys Area United Way.
The installation of a Marcellus Shale gas well near the Ridgway Reservoir raised concerns for members of the Ridgway Borough Council.

St. Marys resident Mary Bowser recently visited 110 state parks in a challenge honoring the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Maurice K. Goddard, the "father" of Pennsylvania's state parks.
Carmen A. Tegano, 84, of Christ The King Manor, DuBois, died on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Ridgway, the son of the late Joseph P. and Villa (Eleanor) Rosario Tegano. He married Elizabeth Ellen Eckl, who predeceased him on Oct. 6, 1981.
Mr. Tegano had resided in Ridgway all of his life. He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. He graduated from Ridgway Area High School. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.
