A photo captured by Hannah Jo Lampman, 19, of Lake City featuring four area ballet dancers reading three local newspapers has been chosen as a finalist in a nationwide photo contest.
With three photos vying for the top prize those interested in helping Lampman win the contest are encouraged to vote for her photo by choosing to "like" it through their Facebook page by visiting http://www.dancersamongus.com/contest.

Verizon working to determine, fix cell phone issues

Over the past few days, a number of area Verizon Wireless customers have reported experiencing issues with their cellphones temporarily being unable to send or receive text messages or phone calls.
When contacted by The Daily Press on Friday afternoon, Laura Merritt, Verizon Wireless' public relations manager for the Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, indicated that the company is aware of the problem.

Frank J. “Cannonball” Carnovale

Frank J. “Cannonball” Carnovale, 92, of Market Street, Johnsonburg, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 at Elk Regional Hospital after a short illness.
He was born June 12, 1920 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Michael J. and Angela (Galati) Carnovale.
Mr. Carnovale was member of the Holy Rosary Church, Piedmont, Johnsonburg Moose, Legion and Sportsmen’s. He had resided in Johnsonburg all his life. He served as an MP in the Army during WWII in the Asiatic/Pacific Theaters and retired from the Johnsonburg Paper Mill in 1982 after 43 years and being part of the Woodyard Spruce Gang.

Venice V. Blazejewski

Venice V. Blazejewski, 75, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, and formerly of Niagara Falls, N.Y., died Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 15, 1936, in Washington D.C., daughter of the late Merle and Pearl Daily Dent.
She had lived in St. Marys the past 1 1/2 years and was a graduate of Galton High School. She had been employed at Mercy Home Care in Niagara Falls.

Highland Twp. Supervisor waives hearing on environmental crimes charges

JOHNSONBURG – A Highland Township supervisor and sewage treatment plant operator for the James City Sewage Treatment Plant waived his preliminary hearing in District Court 59-3-02 Wednesday on charges that he violated environmental laws in allegedly falsifying environmental reports and discharging some 10 million gallons of raw sewage from the treatment plant into a nearby stream.

J’brg man waives hearing on drug charges

JOHNSONBURG – A Johnsonburg man, the target of a Sept. 26 federal search warrant served by agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and members of the Pennsylvania State Police, waived his preliminary hearing on drug charges stemming from the search and seizure in District Court 59-3-02 on Wednesday.

ST. MARYS - A Byrnedale man, the alleged driver in a violent crash on SR 255 in Byrnedale that left 23-year-old Savannah O. Straub dead, was in District Court Tuesday for his preliminary hearing on charges including homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.
