December 23rd
James E. Abriatis, 65, of 6902 Route 120, Emporium, died unexpectedly at Soldiers & Sailors Hospital in Wellsboro on Friday afternoon, December 21, 2012.
He was born September 30, 1947 in Castle Shannon, a son of the late Paul "Pete" and Mildred Renton Abriatis.
On October 29, 2011 he married Beverly Crosby Abriatis, who survives.
JAY TWP. - The Jay Township Board of Supervisors announced plans to commission an engineering study of flooding and storm water problems plaguing a number of houses along Hickory Avenue in Weedville, but the issue raised questions as to whether the township or property owners directly affected should foot the bill.

Daniel Jack Sample, 30, of 513 Mill St., Johnsonburg, died Friday morning, Dec. 21, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born on Aug. 23, 1982 in St. Marys, the son of Richard Jack Sample and Judith A. Muroski Sample.
He resided in Johnsonburg most of his life and was a graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School, Class of 2000. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church.
Gerald Lee Dickey, 75, of 144 W. Theresia Rd., St. Marys, died Friday morning, Dec. 21, 2012 at his residence.
He was born Dec. 17, 1937 in Winslow Township, son of the late Charles and Nora Wayland Dickey.
On Nov. 8, 1958 he married Kathryn G. Armagost Dickey, who survives.
He was a 1955 graduate of Sykesville High School in Sykesville. He was a former employee of Speer Carbon of St. Marys, having retired after 43 years of service. He was also a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, St. Marys.
RIDGWAY - A discussion concerning the installation of a Marcellus Shale well located above the Ridgway Reservoir continued during Monday's borough council meeting.
In addition to watching the action on the field when Pitt (6-6) faces off against Mississippi (6-6) in the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Ala. on Jan. 5, area residents might also want to keep an eye on the sidelines in hopes of catching a glimpse of St. Marys native Sam Schneider, a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh who also serves as an equipment manager for the Panthers.
RIDGWAY - A former Ridgway Fire Department Treasurer was in Elk County Court Friday where he accepted a plea deal on charges that he misused over $15,000 in company funds between March 2008 and October 2009.
