ST. MARYS - A former Crystal Fire Department firefighter charged with setting fire to his own mobile camper for the insurance money waived his preliminary hearing Friday in District Court 59-3-03.
The weather was sunny and fairly mild around noon on Saturday morning as a few dozen people gathered at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery to take part in the annual Wreaths Across America National Remembrance Ceremony and assist with placing wreaths on veterans' graves there and at the Protestant Cemetery.
According to local historian Ray Beimel, the Benedictine Sisters who worked at Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital lived year-round in a small apartment, which acted as a "small convent within the building for the Sisters who actually worked there."
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Over $199,000 in scholarships was announced Wednesday at the Punxsutawney Christian School (PCS) as part of the stateâ€™s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. The Elk County Catholic School System in St. Marys and St. Boniface Elementary School in Kersey were among those schools who received funding at the event.
Grace W. McGill, 94, of 108 Irishtown Rd., Fox Manor, Kersey, and formerly of Bucktail Road, St. Marys, died early Sunday morning, Dec. 16, 2012 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 12, 1918 in Horton Township, Elk County. On May 14, 1938, in St. Marys, she married Charles J. McGill, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1982.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Kersey and Toby schools. She was a former employee of the Stackpole Carbon Co., the Keystone Carbon Co., and was a retired Tip Staff for the Elk County Court.
Harold L. "Knocker" Feldbauer, 92, of 335 Spruce St., St. Marys, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born June 3, 1920, in St. Marys, son of the late George and Josephine Kaiser Feldbauer. On November 8, 1952, in Virginia, he married Lillian Unsworth Miller Feldbauer, who preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2000.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. He was the retired co-owner of the former Feldbauer & Uhl Plumbing Co., where he had worked for over 25 years.
James H. Dietz, 90, of 106 Linwood Ave., St. Marys, died on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Dubois Nursing Home following a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 11, 1922 in Ridgway, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Pfingstler Dietz.
On June 14, 1947 in St. Mark's Church in Emporium, he married the late Elizabeth J. "Betty" Dietz, who preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2012.
Shirley E. Amacher, 87, of 224 Park Ave., Ridgway, died on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 9, 1925 in Brockway, a daughter of the late Clemens and Marie Weilacher Richards.
On May 30, 1952 in Brockway, she married the late Clayton Amacher, who preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Amacher was a lifelong resident of the area and an active member of Ridgway Church of the Nazarene, where she also served as a custodian for many years.Â She enjoyed playing the piano and spending time with her family.
