In response to a civil complaint filed Dec. 6 by Elk County Sheriff Jeffrey C. Krieg against the county's board of commissioners, Tom Wagner, county solicitor acting on behalf of the board, has filed a response regarding the issues and has introduced new matters in the case.
RIDGWAY - On the evening of Jan. 2, 2011, an 89-year-old Johnsonburg man was home alone when two intruders forced their way into his home and held him to the ground while brandishing a knife and demanding money from him.
The Wreaths Across America National Remembrance Ceremony honoring all deceased veterans will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery on Saturday at noon, followed by the placement of wreaths on the graves of veterans in both the Catholic and Protestant cemeteries. The wreaths were previously purchased by members of the community through Wreaths Across America and are designated for the graves of specific veterans. Any extra wreaths will be placed on the veterans' monuments at both cemeteries.
During the most recent Fox Township Supervisors meeting Tom Wildnauer, Fox Township Fire Police captain, provided the supervisors with information ensuring that workers' compensation will be provided when fire police officers perform activities that are not considered emergency calls.
Last month marked 78 years since one of the most fateful days in the history of Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital-- the day the hospital was destroyed by fire on Nov. 27, 1934.
John S. Muccio, 83, of Cherry Avenue in Weedville, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at his home.
Born on Dec. 1, 1929 in Penfield, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (DiLullo) Muccio.
On June 26, 1954 at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Force, he married Geraldine H. (Facchine) Muccio, who survives.
John was a dock worker for Ward Trucking Co. in Falls Creek for over 30 years. After retirement, he was the janitor at Bennetts Valley Elementary School for several years. For over 50 years, he drove school bus for Muccio Transportation.
Roy A. "Stony" Defranco, 92, of 215 Bergen St., Johnsonburg, died Tuesday night, Dec. 11, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 20, 1920 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Antonio and Pasqualina Albanase Defranco.
On May 8, 1954 in Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Julia A. Gigliotti, who survives.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1938.

ST MARYS - A former employee of the Walmart Supercenter in Fox Township charged with stealing $20,000 from the store over a two-year period was in District Court Tuesday, where she waived her preliminary hearing on charges of theft by unlawful taking of moveable property, a third-degree felony.
RIDGWAY - A 12-member jury comprised of Elk County residents was selected Monday to serve in the upcoming trial of a Johnsonburg man on drug charges filed in the wake of a search warrant executed at his Second Avenue home in which police reportedly uncovered 638 marijuana plants growing inside.
