The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch basketball team opened play in the District 9 League by hosting the Brookville Raiders Tuesday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven, where the Raiders handed the Dutch a 54-33 loss.
The Raiders outscored the Dutch by a 27-13 margin in the first half and a 27-20 margin in the second half to record the victory.
“This was a bad night,” said St. Marys coach Mark Guido. “We got outcoached, we got outplayed from the beginning to the end.”
“Now we have three practices to get ready for Bradford,” said Guido. “We have to put this game behind us and learn from it.”
The Guardian Angel Center, Helpmates Charitable Giving Foundation, Inc., has recently received a grant from the Women Who Care to start a new program.
“We are working on starting a new disposable diapers program,” said Clythera Hornung, volunteer and co-grant contact. “It is a program that we have never done in the past, and it will be a nice benefit to our clients.”
Guardian Angels will lend a helping hand to those who may find it difficult to purchase diapers in an inexpensive manner.
