JAY TWP. - The Pennsylvania State Police have issued a warning to Jay Township residents urging them to lock their vehicles and take valuable items inside following a recent string of burglaries and thefts from motor vehicles in the area.
Trooper Craig A. Smith, the investigating officer in two recent thefts from a motor vehicle, said the criminal activity has peaked within the last month and the investigation has yet to yield any suspects.
Richard L. Carrara, 76, died unexpectedly on Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born in Coal Hollow on March 31, 1936, a son of the late Joseph and Inez Contrini Carrara.
Residing in Fairview, Richard owned Carrara Steel & Carrara Steel Erectors, Amthor Steel, Serafini’s Restaurant, the Inn at Presque Isle and Sparkling Ponds Winery. He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Church.
RIDGWAY - Township supervisors from Elk County had concerns about the state’s new oil and gas drilling law versus local ordinances at a recent meeting of the Elk County Gas Task Force.
Fox Township Supervisor and Roadmaster Randy Gradizzi and Jay Township Supervisor Murray Lilley questioned representatives from the State Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) about protections in the new law (Act 13 of 2012) and whether they were sufficient to adequately shield area residents and water sources from the impact of Marcellus Shale drilling.
