As the first rays of light break over the hills and the ground is wet with dew, the voices of area residents will be raised in song and prayer at a sunrise service on Easter Sunday.
The service will take place at 6:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 8, at the Diamond in downtown St. Marys. The Rev. Chris Kindle, pastor of First United Methodist Church in St. Marys, said multiple churches will be participating in the event.
Monday evening, St. Marys City Council approved several items ranging from parking updates to CDBG applications to new protocol for police promotions.
Council unanimously approved a resolution establishing the procedures for promotion within the City of St. Marys Police Department.
Greene said the resolution was reviewed by City Solicitor Tom Wagner as well as the Civil Service Commission.
Jane G. Sorg, 89, of 561 Rock St., St. Marys, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was born March 9, 1923 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Herman and Genevieve Mayer Gregory. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1941.
On Oct. 12, 1948 in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Paul J. Sorg, who preceded her in death on May 25, 1990.
Dennis A. Wolfe, 75, of Rattlesnake Road in Brockport, died on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1936 in St. Marys to the late Joseph and Loretta Eckert Wolfe. On Oct. 29, 1994, he married Naomi R. Heise, who survives.
Michael J. Zwald, 39, of 35 South St., Ridgway, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center following an industrial accident.
He was born July 27, 1972 in St. Marys, the son of W. James and Sandra Salter Zwald, who survive, of St. Marys. On July 11, 1998 in the Queen of the World Church, he married April M. Whiteman, who survives.
