Dutch tennis team blanks DuBois Central 9-0

SMA travels to Punxsy today

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch tennis team improved to 2-2 on the season with a 9-0 victory over the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals Tuesday afternoon at the SMAHS courts.
At first singles, Dutchman Michael Fox defeated Elliott Laparne 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
Dutchman Evan Lepovetsky defeated Tom Boyer 6-4, 6-4 at second singles.
At third singles, SMA’s Jarred Lipsey beat Jacob Aravich 6-0, 6-0.
At fourth singles, Gary Fledderman of the Dutch defeated Ben Trinkley 6-2, 6-4.
Eric Uhl of the Dutch defeated Julie Fitzer 6-4, 7-5 at fifth singles.

DuBois Area track squads sweep ECCHS teams

The DuBois Area track and field teams swept the Elk County Catholic squads in a meet held Tuesday afternoon at the ECCHS track and field complex.
The Lady Crusaders lost by a 96-54 score, while the Crusaders lost 114-56.
In the girls’ meet, Elk Catholic was led by triple winner Kennedy Weisner as she won the 800 run, 400 dash and was a member of the winning 3200 relay team.
Victoria Dippold was a double winner. She took the 3200 run and was a member of the winning 3200 relay team.

Council addresses Zito Media issues

St. Marys City Council approved a motion to request a representative from Zito Media appear before council to address ongoing issues with the cable television provider.
During Monday evening's council work session, Councilman Ned Jacob expressed interest in establishing a three-member Administrative Affairs committee to meet with Zito Media. The committee would consist of City Manager Dave Greene, City Solicitor Tom Wagner and Jacob, as well as adding three residents to the committee.

Solid Waste authority pursuing recycling grant

At Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Solid Waste Authority, Elk County Recycling/ Solid Waste Coordinator Bekki Titchner said the county would be pursuing a recycling program (902) grant from the state.
"For the first time in about three years, there is going to be a recycling program equipment grant, but it's a lot more substantial than the last one we applied for," said Titchner, explaining that this round of grants requires a great deal more of information to be submitted to the state. "There's a lot more information they are requesting."

Commission discusses elk herd

RIDGWAY - Officials from the Pennsylvania Game Commission attended an Elk County Commissioners meeting Tuesday morning to respond to critics from Jay Township who allege that the elk herd in their area is getting out of hand.
Officials indicated that the herd has not grown but rather a mild winter caused 32 elk historically located in the Medix Run area to migrate to Weedville.
