New book chronicles final years of JFK Jr.; author coming to St. Marys

On Friday evening, New York Times best-selling author RoseMarie Terenzio will make an appearance at the St. Marys Public Library, where she plans to discuss her book "Fairy Tale Interrupted: A Memoir of Life, Love and Loss." The event offers a night of recollections of John F. Kennedy Jr. from Terenzio, his former personal assistant and confidante.
The St. Marys Public Library and local author John Schlimm are co-hosting the event, which begins at 7 p.m. with refreshments. At 7:30, there will be a question-and-answer session with Terenzio and book signing to follow at 8 p.m.

Progress lacking in Jay Twp. audit confusion

At Thursday's meeting of the Jay Township Board of Supervisors, questions were asked concerning progress in resolving a discrepancy within the 2011 audit in which the township's holdings were overstated by roughly $105,000.
The discrepancy was first brought to the public's attention at March's meeting of the board, when Jay Twp. Supervisor Murray K. Lilley announced a disparity specific to the township's general fund balance.

Gypsy moth population on the rise

Elk County Conservation District Manager Steve Putt reported an increase in the gypsy moth population during Monday night's regular meeting.
"The gypsy moth population is increasing again," Putt said. "If you follow the gypsy moths at all they really run in cycles so you will have a couple of years of high populations then the population will drop off and you will have a couple years of very little or no population then all of a sudden it will spike again and we are in that upward spike at this point."

Pip eliminated by Adam Levine on 'The Voice'

Pip, the 19-year-old son of St. Marys native Jim Arnold, saw his run on NBC's "The Voice" come to an end on Monday evening as he was eliminated by his coach Adam Levine at the end of the show. Both Levine and Cee Lo were required to instantly eliminate one of their four performers, while the other three were left to vie for America's votes.
During his performance Monday evening, Pip appeared sans bow-tie for the first time and even briefly played the piano during his performance of "Somewhere Only We Know."

Letters from Home completes its final campaign

Many gathered on Sunday, April 22 to assist in creating the final packages for the Letters from Home program. It was a day of celebration as volunteers and special guests saluted those involved.
Congressman Glenn 'GT' Thompson (R-5) visited the ceremony to offer his congratulations.

Updates provided in East Branch Dam project

Recently several representatives from the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers, Pittsburgh District met with area residents and other agency officials as part of the East Branch Dam Safety Project Stakeholders meeting.
The main goal of the meeting was to provide an update to local partners and agencies on the progress that has been made since the last meeting held in September.

Criticism of Jay Twp. appointment continues

The Jay Township Board of Supervisors' appointment to fill a vacancy on the township's Water Authority Board continues to draw criticism, with residents and officials questioning the validity of the selection and motives behind it.
The appointment in question occurred at last month's meeting, when Supervisors Jeremy Rippey and Fran Gustafson voted in favor of appointing Marty Rosenfeld to fill a vacancy left by Water Authority Board member Geoff Sidelinger's February resignation.

Raymond Frederick Dush

Raymond Frederick Dush, 77, of Brookville died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at his home.
Born Feb. 20, 1935, in Brady Township, Clearfield County, he was the son of the late Pirl and Ella (Bailor) Dush. 
On August 7, 1960, he married Dorothy (Jean) McCracken at the Richardsville Baptist Church. 

Pamela J. Cousins

April 23, 2012

Pamela J. Cousins, 50, of Spring Run Road, Weedville, died Saturday April 21, 2012 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born February 21, 1962 in DuBois, daughter of James and Bonita (Foster) Cousins, who survive in Weedville.

Historical Society holds annual dinner

The Elk County Historical Society held their 48th Annual Dinner Friday night at The Royal Inn along Boot Jack Road in Ridgway.
