Rita M. Hacherl of San Diego, Calif., and formerly of St. Marys, died on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
She was born Oct. 15, 1921, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Urban and Amanda Hacherl.
During WWII, she moved to San Diego, Calif., where she worked as a secretary for the U.S. Navy. Rita loved the California sunshine and San Diego became home.
She is survived by a niece, Carol Hacherl of Oregon; and a nephew, Donald Hacherl of Washington.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Regis Hacherl.
Thomas C. Detwiler, 60, of 42 Cottage Lane, Ridgway, died Sunday evening, May 20, 2012 at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 8, 1952 in St. Marys, the son of Jane L. (Evans) Detwiler and the late Earl M. Detwiler.
He married Kathleen M. Liscinski on Dec. 28, 1974, and she survives.
Fern L. Crawford of Sellersburg, Ind., died Feb. 26, 2012.
She was the daughter of the late William and Harriet Hill Smith.
Fern was a very generous, thoughtful and loving person, and will be missed very much by her family and friends.
She is survived by a close friend and brother-in-law, Fred Wickett; and by several nieces and nephews.
Regarding what has been a hot topic item throughout St. Marys for some time, Jim Rigas of Zito Media discussed several issues encountered by the cable company during Monday evening's St. Marys City Council meeting.
Rigas began by explaining planned St. Marys upgrades, ranging from bandwidth upgrade, two-way activation, and regional fiber network to high-speed data and voice capability, high-definition and DVR offerings.
ST. MARYS - With May marking National Stroke Awareness Month, a recent seminar was held at the Education Center at Elk Regional Health Center in an attempt to raise awareness surrounding the risk factors, contributing factors, and symptoms associated with strokes.
