The Johnsonburg Rams advanced to today’s championship game of the Elk County Baseball Tournament with a 15-5, six-inning victory over the Ridgway Elkers Friday afternoon at Berwind Park.
The Rams play St. Marys Area, this morning at 10 a.m. for the 2012 crown. The Dutch defeated the Elk County Catholic Crusaders 10-6 Friday in the late game. The Elkers will meet the Crusaders in the consolation game, which is slated for a noon start.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader tennis team handed the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch squad an 8-1 loss Friday afternoon at the SMAHS courts. This was the completion of a match that began last Thursday but was halted by rain.
“This was a good, quality win for us. St. Marys always is a challenge and we were able to overcome them today,” said ECCHS coach Nick Caggiano. “For the most part we looked sharp. On clay you have to be very aware and alert and I think we accomplished that today.”
At first singles, ECC’s Ben Wortman defeated Michael Fox 6-2, 6-1.
