Will meet Ridgway Saturday at Memorial Park
The St. Marys Little League Baseball Major League all-star squad suffered an 11-6 loss at the hands of the Punxsutawney squad last night at Memorial Park.
St. Marys now falls into the loserâ€™s bracket, where they will meet Ridgway on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Memorial Park.
In last nightâ€™s game, both teams had 10 hits. Getting the hits for the St. Marys squad were Tim Wehler and Hayden Tettis, both with a double and a single. Gabe Kraus had two singles while Brendon Rolley, Alec Wehler, Ryan Heary and Logan Hoffman each singled.
Area residents can shop for fresh, local foods from summer to fall at the St. Marys Farmers Market, set to open for the season tomorrow.
The market will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. every Saturday from June 30 until Oct. 20 in the parking lot of the Franklin Center in downtown St. Marys.
Market Manager Marty Riddle said many items are available.
"We have in-season vegetables and fruits, baked goods. We also have meats, smoked cheeses, jellies, jams," Riddle said. "They [patrons] can get fresh produce, homemade baked goods and they help support local farmers and the area people."
Local writers Geraldine "Gerri" Bianchi Wolfe and the late Clark Hawkins teamed up to write a new book, "Through the Window," which offers a diverse collection of short stories of the past and present, many of which are inspired by true life-events and set in northwestern Pennsylvania.
The 100-page book offers 11 short stories, including an introduction, an in memoriam, commentary, brief author biographies and local photos, most of which were provided by Hawkins.
Dr. David Quinn Steele, 85 of Glen Hazel Road in Wilcox, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at U.P.M.C. Presybterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Alice L. Marcenelle, 82, of Port Vue, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
She was the daughter of the late Grover and Helen (McVicker) Ritchie; the devoted wife of Anthony "Ants" Marcenelle; loving mother of Tawnie (Larry) Gisi of Monroeville, Anthony (Zoe) Marcenelle, Ronnie (Jennifer) Marcenelle of Houston, Texas, Connie Mellett of Aspinwall and Victoria (Mark) Whiteman of St. Marys; and the grandmother of Andrew Gisi, Christopher and Emily Marcenelle, Alison, Jacob and Sare Whiteman and Alexandra Mellett.Â
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in deathÂ by a brother, Alan Ritchie.
The St. Marys American Legion Baseball team raised their record to 9-3 on the season with a 10-3 victory over the Bradford Legion Wednesday night at Berwind Park.
WILCOX â€“ Cole Peterson made the start on the mound Wednesday for Wilcox in American Legion baseball against Fox Township and stole the show with not only a complete game 5-2 win but also a perfect 4 for 4 showing at the plate.
Peterson struck out nine batters on the night while working out of trouble with runners in scoring position four times.
