During Wednesday evening's Fox Township Supervisors' meeting, Jim Rigas of Zito Media provided a brief update on the cable television provider's ongoing upgrades to area subscribers.
Rigas stated Monday was the busiest day for the company's St. Marys office, which marked the first day the new cable boxes became available to subscribers.
Celebrate, remember, fight back are the three inspirational words associated with the 2012 Relay for Life of Elk County running from noon on Friday, June 8 to noon on Saturday, June 9 at the Fox Township Community Park in Kersey.
A new activity at this year's relay is the talent show scheduled from 7-11 a.m. Saturday on the park's stage. Registration will take place from 6-7 a.m. on a first-come basis. First-, second- and third-place trophies will be awarded in each age group of 5-9, 10-17 and 18 to adult.
Western Pennsylvania resident Robert Hilliard is in love with the land—so much so that he’s written a book about it. The author recently released “A Season on the Allegheny,” a tale about the year he spent hunting and exploring on the Allegheny National Forest, and will be holding a book signing this Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Forest County Visitor Center, 422 Elm Street, Tionesta, PA 16353. The book is also available on Amazon in paperback or in Amazon Kindle format.
Christian C. Cordero, 23, of 131 Dove Rd., St. Marys, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in State College.
He was born Dec. 23, 1988 in St. Marys, son of Adelardo and Nanette Soriano Cordero, who survive, of St. Marys. He was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Elk County Catholic High School in 2007. He attended South Hills College in State College. He had also attended Penn College. He was in the diagnostic sonography program in school and was active in basketball, football and the Cavalier basketball program.
Columbia M. Fabiano, 93, formerly of 312 Chestnut Ave., Ridgway, died Tuesday evening, June 5, 2012, at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born April 23, 1919, in Daguscahonda, daughter of the late Domenic and Rita (Fiorentino) Dagustine. She married James J. Fabiano on July 29, 1939, he preceded her in death on July 30, 1980. She had resided in Ridgway for most of her life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Kathleen “Pat” Kneidel Meloni, 87, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Erie.
She was born in St. Marys on Dec. 4, 1924, daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Reider Kneidel.
Pat was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, the Ladies Guild and the New Life group of the church.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Andrew (Robert) of Baltimore, Md., and Karen Meloni (Darrell Kruszewski) of Erie; two sisters, Jean Schatz of St. Marys and Joan Rusciolelli (Frank) of Ridgway; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
