The Wilcox Legion baseball team is in todayâ€™s championship contest despite losing by an 11-6 score to French Creek Valley in the nightcap of the Region 8 Tournament Tuesday at Berwind Park.
Todayâ€™s schedule will see French Creek Valley taking on Albion at 1 p.m., with the loser being eliminated. The winner of that game will take on Wilcox for the Region 8 title in a game scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
RIDGWAY â€“ A joint investigation between the Pennsylvania State Police at the Ridgway barracks and the Ridgway Borough Police Department has resulted in the arrest of Francis "Tony" Milliard, 54, and Anthony Milliard, 28, both of Ridgway.
Francis Milliard was apprehended on felony arrest warrants for multiple counts of arson, criminal mischief, and recklessly endangering another person, charges related to a May 30 fire at the residence of Pauline Smith, 521 West Main St. in Ridgway Township.
Anthony Milliard was also charged as a co-defendant in the matter.
With Dickinson Center, Inc. just days away from unveiling its new 28,200-square-foot facility located at 43 Servidea Drive along Route 219 in Ridgway Township, Dickinson CEO Jack Goga explained the motives and incentives behind the new $4.1 million facility.
Groundbreaking at the site took place in October 2011 and according to the DMHC website, the construction is ahead of schedule. As a result, DMHC programs to be housed within the new facility are scheduled to begin their relocations as soon as Aug. 1, with the process continuing through Aug. 9.
Warm weather and abundant sunshine on Tuesday morning made for nice conditions for Activity Day at Benzinger Park. This year's 35th annual event got under way at 10 a.m. and, according to Park Director John Schneider, saw a turnout of between 60 and 70 participants.
"We'd like to see it (participation) a little bit more, but we're happy that we have the turnout that we have," Schneider said.
While the event was open to youth between the ages of four and 15 years old, Schneider noted that the majority of attendees were actually four through 12 years old.
Joseph F. Ehrensberger, 69, of 114 Cadillac Rd., St. Marys, died peacefully Tuesday morning, July 24, 2012 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 11, 1942 in St. Marys, son of Clara B. Speaker Ehrensberger of St. Marys and the late Joseph A. Ehrensberger, who died in 2001. On June 10, 1961 in the St. Maryâ€™s Church, he married Carol A. Bauer, who survives.
The St. Marys Legion baseball team saw their run in the Region 8 Tournament come to an end on Monday evening with a loss to French Creek Valley. The 14-4, eight-inning loss was St. Marys' second in the double elimination tournament.
"Once again it was just a matter of four or five innings where we played good ball, and then the wheels came off," said St. Marys manager Fran Pasi after the game.
Wilcox meets French Creek Valley tonight
The Wilcox Legion squad remained undefeated in the Pa. American Legion Region 8 Tournament with a 14-6 victory over the Millcreek team.
Wilcox will now meet French Creek Valley tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Berwind Park.
Todayâ€™s first game will see Albion taking on Millcreek in an elimination game. Albion is the Erie County champ while Millcreek in the Erie County runner up.
In last nightâ€™s nightcap, which lasted almost 3 1/2 hours, both teams had 14 hits.
