Home search yields more in Milliard case

On Aug. 9, law enforcement officers executing a search warrant descended on the 76 Long Level home belonging to Francis Anthony Milliard, 54, of Ridgway, combing the property for physical evidence that would bolster ongoing investigations and possibly lead to new cases against Milliard, who is currently incarcerated and charged with two area arsons as well as attempted homicide.
Milliard is charged along with his son, Anthony Karl Milliard, 28, of Ridgway, in arsons committed at 115 First Ave. in Johnsonburg on Dec. 4, 2008 and one at 521 West Main St. in Ridgway on May 30, 2012.

Crusader Marching Band members 'have a dream'

The Elk County Catholic High School Crusader Marching Band has a crowd-pleasing new score for this year's halftime show and performance season.
The group will be performing "The Best of ABBA," a medley of top hits from the Swedish band known worldwide to audiences of all ages. The songs they will perform are "Dancing Queen," "I Have A Dream," "Mamma Mia," and "The Winner Takes it All."
Ray Knight, ECCH's longtime marching band director, says this year's material seems to have students especially enthusiastic.

Wood processing industry on display at Farm Bureau tour

DeLullo Trucking Corp. and The Woodbed Corp. of St. Marys hosted the 2012 Elk County Farm Bureau Legislative Farm Tour on Friday, showcasing the wood processing aspect of the timber industry.

Jay Twp. officials seek leverage in Shale activity

The Jay Township Board of Supervisors, in an effort to exert control over Marcellus Shale activity occurring within the municipality, have found themselves bound in their attempts by bureaucratic red tape.
Concerns have been mounting in Jay Twp. regarding the limiting of local governing of Shale activity, and township officials have repeatedly sought ways to maintain any shred of influence over industry operations within their jurisdiction.

Marshall E. Wilson, 81, of 78 Springbrook Dr., Ridgway, died Thursday morning, Aug. 16, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center following a lengthy illness. He was born March 9, 1931 in Ridgway, son of the late Benton C. and Margaret B. (Evans) Wilson. He married Maude Helen Salberg on March 17, 1956; she preceded him in death on March 9, 2011.

Agnes Dickant Rafaloski

Agnes Dickant Rafaloski, 88, of Pittsburgh, died Thursday morning, Aug. 16, 2012 in the trauma center at Allegheny General Hospital after battling traumatic injuries sustained in a car accident that occurred four weeks ago.
She is the daughter of the late John and Susan Dickant.

Robert M. Johnson

Robert M. Johnson, 85, of 258 Horner Rd., Wilcox, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 15, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a short illness.
He was born April 6, 1927 in Kane, son of the late Irving and Florence Anderson Johnson.
On July 3, 1952 he married Iva Joanne Smith, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2003.
He resided in Wilcox all his life and attended Wilcox High School. He enlisted in the Navy and was a veteran of WWII, serving at sea as a Teoman 3rd class aboard the USS YMS 133.
and received his GED later in life.
