One-vehicle accident across from Sheetz

September 15, 2012

At approximately 1:16 a.m. on Saturday, a one-vehicle accident occurred on South Michael Road, directly across from Sheetz. According to unconfirmed reports, a vehicle operated by a male driver crashed into a utility pole and the front of a building housing the business Fourth Floor Graphics. The St. Marys City Police, Crystal Fire Department and St. Marys Area Ambulance responded to the scene. There were reportedly no injuries. Photo by Victoria Stanish.

Crusaders crush Cameron County 43-0

EMPORIUM – The Elk County Catholic Crusader football team picked up a big win on Friday night, defeating the Cameron County Red Raiders 43-0 in a contest played at Cameron County High School in Emporium.
The Crusaders took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, were up 17-0 at the half, and led 30-0 at the end of three quarters.
"I'm glad we didn't stop playing. We kept on playing a full four quarters of football finally, even through a little bit of the rain and muck out here. The guys did a nice job," said ECC coach Travis Skrzypek.

Brookville Raiders rally to defeat Flying Dutchmen 19-15

BROOKVILLE - The Brookville Raiders were able to score 12 points in the final 7:41 of last night’s KSAC Big School Division game to come from behind to beat the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch by a 19-15 score.
The Dutchmen were able to take a 15-7 lead at halftime but were unable to stop the Raiders in the fourth quarter of play.
“This was a very disappointing loss,” said St. Marys coach Joe Schlimm. “Penalties really hurt us tonight and we squandered some opportunities, especially in the first half.”

Bradford edges Lady Dutch 3-2 in Bucktail Tourney

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch soccer team lost to the Bradford Lady Owls by a 3-2 score Friday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field in the opening round of the Bucktail Tournament.
St. Marys will now take on Elk Catholic this morning at 10 a.m. in the consolation game while Bradford meets Ridgway at noon for the title contest.
Bradford was able to take a 3-0 lead after the first 40 minutes of play as they used their aggressive play and ball movement to their advantage.
St. Marys came out being more aggressive in the second half and played stronger defense.

Lady Elkers edge ECC in tourney

ST. MARYS — The Ridgway Lady Elkers scored the game's only goal to defeat the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders 1-0 Friday in varsity girls' soccer and advance to today's Bucktail Tournament championship game.
Ridgway will play Bradford at 12 noon as the Lady Elkers try for their second straight title. ECC will meet St. Marys Area in the consolation game at 10 a.m.
Freshman Jenna DeAngelo scored with 10:44 left on the clock in the first half for the only point Ridgway would need.
