Council approves pension plans

St. Marys City Council approved two issues pertaining to pension plans during their Monday evening meeting.
The 2013 Minimum Municipal Obligation (M.M.O) for pension plans was the first item addressed. The annual report, known as Act 205, requires information about the plans be submitted and approved by the governing body of the city by Sept. 30.
Total reimbursement for the police pension is $171,550 and for the non-uniformed employees it is $133,164, for a total of $304,714. As of Monday, the city's state aid is $236,023.24, leaving the city contribution at $76,677.74.

Fall Fest set to be big blast

ST. MARYS - With tons of vendors, entertainment and activities for children and adults, this year’s third annual Bavarian Fall Fest is sure to be full of autumnal fun for area residents.
The festival will be held in downtown St. Marys from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 21; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23.
Planning committee member Paula Weyant said this year's event has even better entertainment than the two years prior.

New event hits Chautauqua area

The Chautauqua Art Challenge, an event inspired by the Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, is scheduled to hit Mayville, N.Y. on Sept. 24-29.
The weeklong event, conjured up by Rendezvous genius Rick Boni, will feature a painting competition, clay competition, cardboard/fabric sculpture competition, ice carving competition, and wood carving competition.
"It's a wonderful opportunity," said Liz Boni of Appalachian Arts Studio. "It was probably a couple of years after the Rendezvous where Rick [Boni] thought it'd be really neat to have an event where you're really challenged.

Harold A. "Rudy" Simbeck

Harold A. "Rudy" Simbeck, 80, of 177 Wehler Rd., St. Marys, died on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 following a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 15, 1931 in St. Marys, a son of the late Charles and Estella Galmish Goodrow Simbeck. On July 24, 1954 in St. Mary's Church, he married the late Rita Mae Wendel, who preceded him in death on June 15, 2004.

Christine H. Brem, 89, a resident of the DuBois Nursing Home in DuBois and formerly of the Elk Towers and Grandview Road, St. Marys, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 20, 1922, in Daguschonda, daughter of the late John and Frances Knouse Meholic. On May 29, 1947, in the Sacred Heart Church, she married George J. "Jingles" Brem, who he preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1995.
