The Elk County Catholic Crusader football squad opened their season with a 33-6 victory over the Smethport Hubbers at Dutch Country Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
ECC jumped out to an early 12-0 lead with a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter. Smethport scored their only points in the second quarter while the Crusaders added another touchdown, making the score at halftime 18-6. Elk Catholic finished with another pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the 33-6 win.

Amelia E. "Melie" Wehler, 87, of 1045 LeMans Rd., St. Marys, died on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 23, 1924 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia Werneth Wehler.
Charles William "Bill" Reed, 95, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at the Rouse Home of Warren County where he had resided the past nine months.
He was born in Ridgway on July 24, 1917 to the late Ruth Dickey and Rollin Amos Reed.
On June 12, 1948, he married Ruth Anna Eckert, who preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 2006.
Kathleen E. Ginther, 60, of 1785 Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen E. Ginther will be celebrated today at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Center St., St. Marys, with Fr. Eric Vogt, OSB, as celebrant. Â
Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Frank L. Etaliano, 67, of Wehler Road, St. Marys, died unexpectedly early Monday morning, Sept. 3, 2012 at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie .
He was born on Sept. 18, 1944 in Warren, son of the late Guiseppe and Gladys Ewings Etaliano. On April 5, 1967, in Ellicottville, Md., he married Cheryl A. Snyder, who survives.
He was a graduate of Sheffield High School, Class of 1962, and had resided in St. Marys since 1966. He was employed as an electrician at the Stackpole Corp. for 25 years and was employed at Carbon Graphite for six years and was last employed at Eastern Sintered.
