The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch picked up a 67-31 senior night victory over the Ridgway Lady Elkers on Friday evening at St. Marys Area High School.
The Lady Dutch led all the way, taking a 19-7 first-period advantage, leading 36-12 at the half, and 52-20 at the end of three quarters.
"It was a nice win on senior night recognizing our three seniors. They played well tonight," said St. Marys coach Leona Hoohuli.
Ridgway advanced to its second consecutive AML Championship game with a 51-37 victory over Elk County Catholic in the boys' basketball AML semifinal Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Loretta R. Quattrone, age 79, of 222 Spruce St., Ridgway, died early Friday morning, Feb. 17, 2012, at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 27, 1932, in Ridgway, daughter of the late Clifford and Frances (Unick) Emmett. She married Joseph Quattrone on June 11, 1949; he survives.
The 13th installment of the Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous starts today and event organizers couldn't be happier with their plans for the week.
In addition to carvers doing their thing on South Broad Street to Center Street, then Center Street down to Mill Street, and Court Street as well, they also will be performing at other locations.
Pennsylvania residents who want to support breast cancer research and programs can do so simply by checking off a box on their state tax return.
The PA Breast Cancer Coalition's "Refunds for Research" campaign allows residents to donate part or all of their state refund by checking "yes" on line 35 of their PA 40 tax form. Kevin Smith, communications director for the nonprofit coalition, said for most people, directing their refund to the coalition on their tax return is an easy way of charitable giving.
Thursday's meeting of the Jay Township Board of Supervisors saw more infighting between board members as allegations of secret deliberations continue to surface.
The split between members of the board was highlighted at Jay Township's re-organization meeting held this past January, during which Supervisor Murray K. Lilley's position as the township's equipment/road manager was terminated, effectively ending his tenure as an employee of the township.

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch wrestling squad closed out their regular season Thursday evening by defeating the Bradford Owls by a 66-15 score at the SMAHS Dutch Oven on Senior Night.
The Dutchmen finished the season with a 7-8 record.
St. Marys won seven matches by forfeit last night. They also won four bouts by pin.
“The kids that wrestled wrestled pretty well,” said St. Marys coach Dominic Surra.
“We’ve seen how far some of our kids have come. Gary Fledderman is wrestling well and Brian Carnahan is relearning the sport. He hasn’t wrestled since elementary school,” said Surra.
Following January's meeting of the Jay Township Board of Supervisors in which a representative from Elexco Land Services presented information on EQT's intent to conduct seismic testing on all of the township's more than 50 miles of road residents at Thursday's meeting asked what they could expect as a result of the increased activity.
Attendees asked with all the activity within the township if EQT would be covering the cost of water testing for individuals with the increase in drilling expected.
Willis T. “Willy” Gleixner, 71, of 106 Forest Rd., St. Marys, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 22, 1940 in St. Marys, son of the late Alfred A. “Showy” and Frances “Pat” Meyer Gleixner.
On May 14, 1960, in the St. Mary’s Church, he married Patricia A. Schaberl, who survives.
Some people really are out for your blood - but that's not always a bad thing. Just ask Wendy McCoy, a phlebotomist at Elk Regional Health Center since June 2011.
McCoy, a 1986 graduate of Ridgway Area High School, moved back to the area from Kitanning about two years ago and works part-time at ERHC.
Phlebotomists draw blood from a patient's veins to collect samples for testing. McCoy said "phlebotomist" comes from the Greek word "phlebos," which means "vein."
"It basically means specializing in veins," McCoy said.
